Sometimes I see homeless people holding up signs "WILL WORK FOR FOOD" upon seeing these and not being an employer as such I usually give the person a few dollars along with a tract or a "little bible" that lets them know that God loves them ...to me this takes away some of the tension of just handing out money with no real intention.
Anyone desiring tracts of just scripture can find these at the littlebibleministy on the web....they are like .25 a piece. or thereabouts

I first handed out tracts with Jews for Jesus in New York. Why? I read Richard Wurmbrandt's books and I vaguely recall how he said something like "life is isn't much worth living if you have nothing to die for" and Moishe Rosen saying (before he became a believer) how impressed he was when he saw people handing out tracts or preaching on the streets about Jesus. That they must have really believed strongly to take such a risk. Well, I hate confrontation like the plague and am a scaredy cat. However, I was so motivated by these two men and the Lord just kept reassuring me that He could do this through me. To step back and watch Him work in me. So I did. I went out with the best broadsiders at Jews for Jesus in NY and had the best teachers. I was never once afraid, nor did I ever back off even when I had a bunch of Hasidic teens surround me near their Mitzvah Mobile threatening me. I'd been shoved, punched, spit at and yelled at and yet I never took it personally. It really was God working through me. I was wiling to leave my comfort zone and the Lord took care of the rest. I pray I planted many seeds. I did pray with a couple of people on the street to receive Christ but I was a bit reluctant to do that. Wasn't sure if they really meant it, you know? However, I was surprised to find that there were many interested Jewish people who did want to learn more. Some were afraid. I was especially good with these people. I understood fear very well. So if you're thinking about it and think you couldn't possibly do it, maybe you can't, but God sure can. Watch Him work in you. It's great fun and will build your faith and hopefully help to save a few souls.

Richard Wurmbrandt was a great inspiration to me when I was an MK (missionary kid) in the Amazon Jungle in the early 1970's.

Even sending something as simple as an invitation for a small cause like a birthday party is sending out a pamphlet.

It has been years since I have handed out tracts and I never liked it much and wasn't comfortable with it when I was younger...But I am not sure now, things can change...

There is a joy that can be had in sharing the good news of God's provision for us.

I have handed out tracts many times before. I remember one particular time. It was on trick or treat night. I went door to door passing out tracts while everyone else was collecting candy. It was a testimony to my neighbors to see that I was not celebrating this Satanic holiday, but rather turning it into something for the glory of God.

I've handed out gospel tracts on many occasions and ENJOY it.
That's a good idea about doing it Halloween night.
