First let me start off by stating that I am new to this, just joined today!! I hope I am in the right place, apologies if not! A brief history of myself... I was not raised with any strong religion influence, I was a freshman in high school when I met a new best friend. I loves being with her family, very strong believing Christians. She left the public school world in 10th grade, and I followed to a Christian school where I finally met my BEST FRIEND ever Christ!! I began to attend church 3 times a week, all the youth groups I could find etc... Well fast forward to almost 8 years ago... I met my husband who is from a very very strong Jewish family, I had no clue what can of worms would open within his family and how this would becaome an issue. We have 2 girls and our oldest is at an age where she is beginning to notice a difference and ask questions.. We live where there is no temple, and we did go to church but my husband would not tell his family and wad upset when the pastor prayed in Jesus name Amen! My husband's niece is having her bat mitzvah in 14 days, my oldest daughter has stated she might like to have one when she turns 13. Here is my problem, I have concidered converting to Judiaism but my husband told me that I would have to openly deny Christ, can not do!!! We have been doing ok raising the girls with both worlds... both holidays etc... but now there is the time where I have to explain to Mollie that being Jewish (in her father's family) means denying Christ... Both girls have attended Christian schools, I not being an active church member at the moment have no pastor or church elders to turn to for advice nor with where we live or there anyone in the same situation...  So enough rambling, hopefully I have not upset anyone with any of my words, and if anyone is in the same place or has been or just has any words of wisdom I welcome all & any!!! Thanks!!

Well, here is the issue- your daughter is not Jewish and having
a bat mitzvah means accepting the mitzvot. Since she is not
observing them, nor required to,  it would meaningless to have a bat mitzvah.

Your husband is correct.
Why explain to Mollie anything about Judaism, since that is not
her religion? Why not leave it to her to ask questions, and
answer them truthfully as they arise? You can simply say that
her father and his family have a different faith from hers, and
that it does not involve Jesus. I don't see a need to go into
great detail...unless she asks specific questions.
hope that is of some help  Smile
jewish I mean ones that do not believe in Jesus will deny that Christianity was never apart from judiaism.  Before the second temple was destroy Christianity was a branch of judiaism.  Think of this way a corn have a head and tail but you can not take them apart same with Christianty

I hope everyone goes ok for you and The best thing to do in your case jus tshow love and Christ into ever actions you take
hmm sorry I  put corn LOL  I mean coin

Sugartime,

I commend you for sending your girls to a Christian school.   Though you didn’t mention their ages,  from your comments I assume they are starting to ask questions about the extended family’s beliefs.

Give your girls the Truth when they ask you questions Sugartime.    Tell them that Jesus Christ is the only Way to eternal life.  Do not,  under any circumstances,  let them be confused into thinking that Judaism is an option for them (or anybody else for that matter.)

While observing Judaism’s traditions at home might be a way to maintain harmony  and some sense of unity, at the appropriate time you must let your girls know that those traditions have no eternal impact.

Judaism is a men’s religion--a religion of men who oppose the Truth.  It has the appearance of righteousness,  but it is the righteousness of men.  As the scriptures say in Prov 16:25:  There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.   (NIV)

Continue to stand firm in the Lord, as much for your girls as for yourself.  But stand in Christ gently and lovingly around your husband and his family.  Engage your girls in praying daily for their Dad and his family that our Lord will touch their hearts and minds and make them ready to receive His Truth.

As children of God, you and your girls have such good news to give them!!  May our Lord open the door soon!

The Lord bless you!
thank you all for the advice & info, in answer to beacon's question how old my girls are almost 7 & almost 4 the oldest is the one with the questions... I have never met a child so beyond her years, she is really something, of course part of me believe that she is recieving some of those questions via her father or zayde, I still recieve pressure from my in-laws to convert so I can only imagine what thoughts they are planting into her growing mind...  My husband at first demanded that I remove all crosses or religious art when his family came to visit, I did at first but now that the girls are older and wondered why daddy hid the crosses, well that will never happen again. I would never ask or expect that my in-laws take down their mezzuahs (sp) or not wear thier star of david's or torah necklaces... so why should I ... anyways thanks again I am really not making sense to myself at this point in time, we had a loss in the family and well I'm not 100% right now

Sugartime, I encourage you to continue to give your girls, especially your older one, the truth of Jesus Christ when she comes to you with questions about the family's beliefs.  Who knows, perhaps  she will be the instrument our Lord will use to bring the rest of the family into His Kingdom.

I am sorry to hear about the loss in your family.  May our Lord give you and yours His comfort and Peace at this time.

The Lord bless you!
