With a name like Levinson, how could he not be Jewish! I never saw the movie but I think that it is about Elijah cause the real rainman, Kim Peek never scaled his sibling. So, think about it, this is a Jewish sublimation of Elijah anxiety. The fire from heaven man of past memory. That is how Dustin Hofman saw rainman. A guy who had treasure for him he didn't understand. Even further, what if the end time Elijah was a driver for Jewish people and his strange way of thinking was both puzzling and amazing to them.
