Even though Hannukah's currently over I always enjoyed hearing about it in my elementary days. I remember that the first candle is called the Shamash or servant candle. Do the other candles on the menorah have any other special significance? I also remember that the Jewish family mentioned that their god was a raven? At first I thought that this was from a difference in the biblical account of Noah and the ark. Maybe they thought that the raven brought back the fig leaf instead of the dove? I never had the opportunity to ask. Would it be accurate to say that the Hannukah menorah represents a precursor to the advent of Christ, His ministry, and teachings? Kind of like the advent wreath around Christmastime?
Thanks,
Ian
