The other day 2 guys approached me and asked if I was Jewish. When I said no they apologized and turned away.

I watched as they talked to another pedestrian but this time they wanted him to put on some straps and then the pointed to signs and gave him cards with a picture of a man in a black hat that they called the Messiah.

But the guy in the picture did not look like Jesus. Very confusing. Do they know something about the Messiah that we don't?

These are rabbinical students from Chabad. They approach people
to ask if they are Jewish; if the response is yes, the students ask if they
would like to lay tefillin (if they have not already done so).
A small percentage of Lubavitchers (Chabad) mistakenly believe
that their previous Rebbe- who died in the early 90's- was the
moshiach. They have brought a lot of problems upon Chabad and
there is legal actions in the courts now to rid them from the
Chabad hierarchy. They bring shame upon Chabad and upon Jews....

They're like non-Messianic, anti-Christian, "Jewish folks."

Very interesting question.  We have no known photograph or portrait of Jesus but only what we see years after He had lived.  We can assume what He must have looked like given His ancestry, but we do not have His driver's license.  If we were to see Him in a sea of faces today or when we die, would we recognize Him?
"If we were to see Him in a sea of faces today or when we die, would we recognize Him?"

RE:
Is that a hypothetical question or what?

The spirit has no face. You'll recognize him when overwhelmed with his presence. His size is so far bigger than others, it'll be almost impossible to not notice him. Not only his light his bigger but also brighter.

RE:
Yes he did. But that was in the flesh of a man. I was replying to "or when we die":

"If we were to see Him in a sea of faces today or when we die, would we recognize Him?"
