Why does it take soooooooooooo long between the time I make a post and the time it appears in the forum?

I would have thought it would be automatically posted like on other boards.

Does someone have to approve each posting?  If the answer is yes, does that mean every post is read before it will be posted?

Do we need to recruit more readers?

Yes, the forum is moderated and as I understand it the moderators
volunteer their time from their busy lives so sometimes it does
take time for things to get posted after being submitted.
I understand the system and do not mind it, except when there
is an interesting thread I am following and I have to wait for
the next "installment"...but it's not a big deal. If it keeps the
forum civil, I'm all for it.

I guess it's just a bit of a shock to me because I've never experienced these kinds of delays before, so I guess "moderated" means different things to different people.

I must admit however, that I gave it more thought after I posted the question and realized how a board like this one might be a target for hatemongers.

I have posted on other boards where it was a regular occurrence to be "visited" by "white supremacist" simply to attack Jews.
So yes, I do understand the need to moderate the forum even if it does slow conversation down.

moderated means controlled.

this forum is changing since moshe left it.

that the moderators work free is not exactly true. they get to 'control' us and this is very ego satisfying.

as i predicted, i see jews for jesus becoming jews for jews for jesus.  the .ORG will become a beast and zombies will worship it.

I know what you mean- this is the first forum I have had that has
such a delay in moderation; but I guess it's better to have a few
impartial people moderate than people off the forum who might
be a tad bit biased, LOL. Easier to not post things that break the
rules than remove them after the fact too, I guess.

When I trained to be a mod on a forum, I found it anything but
ego satisfying. It was a lot of time and work, is what it was.
And listening to a lot of people kvetching about the choices a mod
made regarding posts.

They do not 'control' us - they do what they are supposed to do - MODERATE - Moderation is not as you, imo, unfairly claim, egoisitc control freakery, not here on JFJ at least because these people are Christians for goodness sake - who are you who dares accuse those whom God has chosen for his own? No on - not even you or I - for God himself has given them right standing with himself. (Romans 8:33)

Have you been or are you a Moderator? If affirmative, did it/does it satisfy your ego?

I ask you because I myself am the Super Moderator of an American based Christian Discussion Forum operating on the same lines as JFJ and if I ever felt myself on some kind of ego-trip as a result of being the Super Moderator I would quit! Moreover, if I sensed any ego-tripping of my Moderators they would go - in fact only today one Moderator was reduced to 'Fore Warned' status.

In view of your remark I feel I must place on record that the Super Moderators and the Moderators here on JFJ are doing an absolutely fantastic job for the glory of God. I have not detected the slightest whiff of egoism.

Like Shietl Q I don't understand what you mean. Can you please elaborate? You say you predicted this (whatever it is); in what post/thread did you do this predicting so we can get proper context?

Moishe hasn't left. I moderate when things come up which prevent him from doing the moderating.

I don't care if this form is controlled by those who have created it. They are my brothers, my sisters, and I bless them in the name of the Almighty. And only ask, that they bless me with their wisdom and intellect when ever possible; because its a Jewish world babba. So, get use to it! shalom Baba.
