Num.21
[8] And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
[9] And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

If a snake bit you would you not want to kill it?

What do you make of this?  Seriously.  Smile

When I was around nine or ten, I used to well up in anger, for reasons
unknown. You know how the world is. I somehow obtained satisfaction by breaking things that were precious to me. (Like watches, model airplanes I had constructed, and yes, I was even cruel to the cat.) Now that I look back, to suffer a loss on my own and have no one else to blame but myself is a victory of Spirit. If we say, G_D why did you allow this, Why did you allow me to sin? G_D took that problem to His heart, and poured out the wrath of our faithless actions (our ignorant self destruction) upon HIMSELF. Part of HIM, His SON, Y'shua. Jesus is G_D for He came out from Him to save us.
That is the beauty in admitting we sin. G_d's love in Christ defeated the penalty Satan knew G_D would exact.

RE:
Exactly. Only the one's who looked upon themselves and recognized their sins were bitten by the snake, all the others saw no snake but a mad man.

The snake is a symbol. I encourage all of you to analize a serpent's tongue. In this case Moses was not supposed to fight his enemy with a 'useless' stick but tell people off. Those that recognized God's Word through the snake(anger) of Moses would convert and be saved.

Inspirational post. I take my hat off to you.
The snake represents sin. Looking at the serpent, the people would have to acknowledge their own sinfulness in personal repentance, since no one, including Moses and Aaron, could look at the snake for them; choose God's new remedy for sin and not a previous one that was included in the Torah; and ponder the question of what God was doing when He apparently broke His own commandments.

If charity or prayer or repentance alone could save, surely God would have chosen that route rather than to order Moses to make an idol (something which represents something other than God), raise the snake on a pole to heaven (seemingly to replace God), and to look to that idol rather than to the Testimony, the Ark, the Pillar of Fire, the Cloud, the Glory, or even the mountain of God.

The Torah is very clear that there is always a proxy for our sins. God did not ask for the ugly sheep to be slaughtered--though ugliness is a part of sin. He asked for the pure, the perfect sheep to be slaughtered. Snakes were not perfect creatures since they had previously been cursed and are not clean animals. Still, a sacrifice had to be perfect.

Our Jewish friends say that we replace God with Christ, that we exchange the glory of God with the mere form of man, that we deny the Torah.

Christ does not violate the Torah. The snake on a pole is firmly in the Torah. It is a prophetic sign to the Jews from God, and from the Torah to us. The sign says the commandments of God do not bring life of themselves, but God Himself brings life—relief from the bite of Satan.

We have been bitten fatally by the Snake, beyond what prayer, charity, and repentance can do. Christ became sin for us, took our sins. Christ was raised up on a pole. Any that look to Him for salvation have to acknowledge their sin and repent; those that choose not to look--perhaps because it seemingly violates the Torah tradition they hold dear--die.

The snake was an elegant symbol that Satan had bitten—come between God and man—and hinted at how he would be crushed by the Seed. The Redeemer brings salvation; salvation comes from the Lord.

Yeshua, God Himself, is that salvation.
(John 3:14-15)

That's how a person is born again. By looking to the Lord Jesus Christ as He was lifted up on His cross and see that there, God has judged my sins and Jesus bore the judgment of God for my sins. As the brass serpent was the symbol of sin being judged, it was looking forward to God judging man's sins upon the cross and God laid upon Him the iniquities of us all and He bore the sins of the world and there God judged the sins of the world on the cross of Jesus Christ.

And now you who are dying because of this deadly affliction of sin, all you have to do to live is to look to the cross of Jesus Christ and see that God has judged your sin and believe in Him. So the brass serpent on the pole in the wilderness was looking forward to the judgment of sin upon the cross when Jesus would be lifted up there upon the cross and bear, once and for all, God's judgment for man's iniquities.

John 3
[14] And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
[15] That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

2Cor.5
[21] For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

"That's how a person is born again. By looking to the Lord Jesus Christ as He was lifted up on His cross and see that there, God has judged my sins and Jesus bore the judgment of God for my sins. As the brass serpent was the symbol of sin being judged, it was looking forward to God judging man's sins upon the cross and God laid upon Him the iniquities of us all and He bore the sins of the world and there God judged the sins of the world on the cross of Jesus Christ."

Amen.
Like Danny(il) said,

Do what G_D says.

G_d told the Israelites (through Moishe) what to do to be healed, to look at the serpent.
If you wanted to stay sick or die, you didn't have to look.

Deut.5
[23] And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;

We look to Jesus, (Y'shua) the SON OF G_D, the author and finisher of our faith, for our resurrection life HE promised.

Matt.17
[5] While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Mark.9
[7] And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

Luke.9
[35] And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
I was living (renting a room) from a friend of mine. His house had burned.
We were rebuilding it. After the foundation was built,  the framing studs and joists went up, I put the building paper  on the roof, along with  the shingles. I went up in the attic to put in the attic vent. Lodged on the top plate of the wall was a long shiny length of what I thought was a pipe.

Turned out to be a snake. There were actually two of them about 7 or 8
ft. long. My friend said, "Lets kill them." I said no, I think they are king snakes. They could have been rat snakes or black snakes. You know,
King snakes are those kind that aren't affected by poisonous' snakes venom, and actually eat them.

The RSV includes Mark 16. The RSV was compiled after many more
Koine manuscripts were discovered in addition to the ones used to
write the KJV.
