I am in discussion elsewhere and have been asked a difficult question and am wondering if some Jewish scholar on JFJ can help me answer ist
Christians are traditionally taught that the first five books of the Law (the books of Moses) were written by Moses.
The question is, how can this be so when the death of Moses is recorded in these books? A dead man cannot write!
Can anyone help me please?

Some else finished Deuteronomy.

The Talmud presents two possibilities.
That Joshua wrote the last eight verses :
The Master has said: "Joshua wrote the book which bears his name and the last eight verses of the Pentateuch." This statement is in agreement with the authority who says that eight verses in the Torah were written by Joshua, as it has been taught: So Moses the servant of the Lord died there.
The second possibility is that Moses himself wrote it, with tears in his
eyes, as he was recording his own death:
[But] Rabbi Shimon said to him: "Can the scroll of the law be short of one word? ... No; what we must say is that up to this point the Holy One, blessed be He, dictated and Moses repeated and wrote, and from this point God dictated and Moses wrote with tears." (Baba Bathra 15a)

Perhaps Joshua could have written this last chapter, either as the end of Deuteronomy or the beginning of Joshua. How were the scrolls organized as far as how one book ended and the next one began?

That is very interesting Goy. Thank you. Have you any information on who that may have been? I have heard the name of Ezra banded about.

Dave I have an answer but it’s messianic… sorry
Moshe’s substitute “Y’hoshua” most likely completed the book shattering the rabbinic tradition of categorizing G-ds word into levels of revelation. It is the compound unity of scripture that is authoritative and why I believe that the Law, Prophets, Writings as well as the New Covenant is G-ds Word together. The 5 books of Moses are powerful and foundational but the writings and prophets are also scripture!
Also... this points to the fact that the Messiah is the true Promised Land since Moshe himself did not enter because of disobedience!
Hebrews 3:3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honor than the house.
Blessed be the Name of Y'shua HaMashiach

Blessed be the Name of Y'shua HaMashiach
So, Moses went to Gehenna or Hell?

Yes...but there was an area for those souls that served God but until Christ went to Hell to set the captives free everyone went into Hell...but now that all those that kept God's laws are no longer there Hell has expanded her borders...in other words the place where believers once stayed is no longer there.
now when a believer dies he either goes into hell to wait judgement or to the see of glass to await the rapture
before you jump all over me...sin cannot stand in God's presence...and ALL(including Moses)had sinned...When Jesus paid the price then all those souls that had followed and kept the Law were removed from Hell.
"Can anyone help me please?"

NO lol
Moses was saved but he came short of his calling...
The point is how much greater of a Law giver is Messiah the builder of the house whom Moses served.
Y'shua is above all!
Luke 12:48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
