I got this Jewish book with Liberal Rabbis and one was saying the talmud has 119 references to Tumtums.
I am against the liberal view this Rabbi took that would condone sodomy.
When I checked out what Orthodox Jews were saying about tumtums they made a good point. Doctors are too quick to turn a boy into a girl. You always know from the X or Y chromosomes exactly what a person is. So, to avoid forceing a person into a life of immorality the Orthodox Rabbis said you should leave the child as a tumtum.
On a bizare note, this Liberal Rabbi said that one place in the Talmud has Abraham and Sarah both being Tumtums but morphing into male and female.
One good point the liberal rabbi made is Christians want to see just male and female and are not open to other categories. This leads to violence against people with birth defects. But the talmud has many categories for what a person is or could be.
Jesus spoke of people who are eunuchs from birth and people in heaven being neither male nor female.
I imagine the challenge of being born a tumtum forces you to be either a highy spiritual eunic or an equally opposite ungodly reprobate.
