I was thinking about what military chaplains do when I remembered makeing a cursory reading of this book a few years ago.

Kurzman, I understand is Jewish.

He notes in the part of the book about the Jewish chaplain who died with the other 3 on the Dorchester in WW II, that lightning flashed on his picture in the state side home of his wife.  She knew he was dead, but was thankfull for the middle of the nigth sign from the Lord about it.

Kurzman said this discovery while doing the research for the book was the most exciteing moment.

"Jew seek for signs", Just like it says in 1 Cor. 1:22.

Over all, Kurzman is good on Naval history.  He points out that contrary to the stamp made of the event, the ship was in bad shape, not a battle ship.

As something more for people focused on naval history this book was not a best sell, but I thought you might be interested in the sign that happened for the Jewish chaplain's wife.
Jesus said no sign will be given but the sign of Jonah.

Jonah the man as the sign and all events around him; or just the whale?

1) a prayer
2) a storm
3) a self sacrificeing Jew going into the water to save others
4) an illumination
{5) german U boat= whale?}

One other thing from the book was that the Rabbi was into looking foreward to the messianiic age.  All Jews are.  They might not be too keen on a messiah, but they all to some degree anticipate the messianic era.
