[edit] Messianic Jews
On April 16, 2008, the Supreme Court of Israel ruled that "being a Messianic Jew does not prevent one from receiving citizenship in Israel under the Law of Return or the Law of Citizenship,"[5] [6] reversing a previous ruling from 1989 whereby the court denied the right of return to Gary and Shirley Beresford, Messianic Jews from South Africa.[7] The ruling specifies that a Messianic Jew may become a citizen of Israel "if one is a descendant of Jews on one's father's side."[5] In addition, the ruling "paves the way for persons who have Jewish ancestry on their father's side to immigrate to Israel freely, whether or not they belong to the Messianic Jewish community."[5]

Thank you Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah of the world!!!!!!!!!

On the patrilineal side as well? Are we both dreaming, or is it actually getting closer to the End Times?

My understanding is that this does not change anything. This applies only
to Messianic "Jews" who have a Jewish father but not a Jewish mother.
The State of Israel does not therefore accept them as being Jews.
Any Christian can immigrate to Israel if they fall under the guideline of
the Law of Return. Why the court was discriminating against Messianic
Gentiles who have a Jewish father only is beyond me...according to the
LOR they should have full aliyah rights.
Noah,

If I may ask, where did you get this "headline" from?

Same question I have....when googling it, the only
sites that come up are Messianic. A MJ on another
forum who lives in Israel and keeps up with issues
there has not even heard of it.

But, as I said, it really doesn't change things if it
is true as these people are not accepted as Jews
by the State.
Messianic Judaism
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Messianic Judaism is a religious movement whose adherents believe that Jesus of Nazareth, whom they call by the Hebrew name Yeshua, is both the resurrected Jewish Messiah and their Divine Savior.[1][2]

As of 1993 there were 160,000 adherents of Messianic Judaism in the United States and 350,000 worldwide. As of 2003, there were at least 150 Messianic synagogues in the U.S. and over 400 worldwide.[3]The number of Messianic Jews in Israel is 15,000 members. [4]

Messianic Jews practice their faith in a way they consider to be authentically Torah-observant and culturally Jewish[5]. However, Jews[6] of all denominations[7] and many Christians[8] do not consider Messianic Judaism to be a form of Judaism, but a form of Christianity.

The headline was way down on the bottom of this page from Wikipedia.

What is so ironic about this ruling is the plaintiffs case
was based on their attorney's  argument that the
plaintiffs were not Jews!

quote from the following link:
Quote:

determined that the petitioners were entitled to automatic new immigrant status and citizenship precisely because they were not Jews as defined by the Law of Return

So that is the basis of their case-that they should be allowed to immigrate
because they were not Jews!

Before you throw patrilineal and Messianic Jewish people under Talmudist feet again, why don't you read my thread "Judaism and Maternity"?
S. Queen.

I guess it boils down to definition of who is a Jew. Will they go by Torah that says jewish blood line is through the Father, or Talmud (oral tradition) that says that the Jewish blood line is through the Mother.

I feel that Jewish religion is one thing but Jewish blood-line is another, any one that is a Jew albeit through the Mother or Father should have the right of return.

Messianic Jews are entitled to Israeli citizenship according to the Law of Return if their father is Jewish, according to a precedent-setting ruling handed down last week by the High Court of Justice.

the Messianics should receive equal treatment under the Israeli Law of Return, which says that anyone who is born Jewish can immigrate from anywhere in the world to Israel and be granted citizenship automatically."

hummmm....sounds like the High Court ruling is saying if your father is a Jew, you're a Jew.
