If you haven’t seen Ben Stein’s documentary “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed,” run, don’t walk, to your nearest theater. It is a funny, biting, and very effectively presented evaluation of the anti-supernatural, pro-evolutionary bias – if not outright hatred – that is endemic to science and higher education in the United States.
Ben Stein, in case you don’t know, is a character actor. You might remember him as the hilariously monotone-speaking teacher in the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day off.” He was a speech writer for Presidents Nixon and Ford.
Stein is also a Jew, and as the movie progresses, it becomes increasingly clear how his Judaism has impacted his concerns on this issue. He demonstrates the link between Hitler’s belief in evolution to his clean, precise, and scathing elimination of all people deemed genetically “imperfect.” As a grandmother of a wonderful little boy with special needs, I found this to be particularly moving. Stein makes it clear that he is NOT saying all Darwinists are Nazis, but he does demonstrate where naturalistic Darwinian thinking can take us.
