Wilby, responding to your post #273:
Nope; and you are going in a round robin on these scriptures. The Holy Spirit does the work using the Word of God, not natural elements of the earth. And, I am quite convinced you are not able to get the English sentence structure in that other verse. That would be a man's foible, for sure.
Steadfast, responding to your post #276:
No response to this???
Why not.... It is an extreamly valid point!
It's not a matter of who loves Jesus here or whether we want to be baptized, but the point immediately in dispute is whether water baptism saves. Wilby among others here insists it does. We argue about these things here, because back of it, it actually does matter what we believe.
It make no sense to tell the lover of your soul that you would do anything in HIS name But Baptism...
He used to demand that it was literally the name spelled J-E-S-U-S, until it was pointed out to him that the name He heard while on earth was His Hebrew name: Yeshua. which he stiffneckedly still won't go with. No, his rendition is Yashashuah or something like that.
Ok...If you are into historic reinactment... That's cool too.
Why would you
NOT want to be baptised "in the name of Yeshua"
His name is glorious and wonderful!
All power is in this name!
I agree, our brother is being a bit stiff in this way...
But then i would humbly suggest to you, my beloved brother, that you are also being this way too. After all, you ad i Both know you LOVE YESHUA. This is a fact! You and i both know you do everything in HIS name.... So, Since there is biblical presedent for baptising in Yeshua's name, Why would you not deeply wish to Honor HIS NAME by being baptised into it, as at least and act of surrendered worship...?
What an increadible Honor to Praise HIS name in such a profound way!
What an amazing Privilage to Praise HIS name in such a way!
Make sense to me...
So, I say...Just do it!
GLORY!
Make sense to me...
So, I say...Just do it!
I think it is important to know the one in whose name one is being baptized into. Wilby is a pantheist. His "baptism" is magic. His baptism is "the way, truth, and life", instead of our Savior.
I read your testimony, Steadfast, so I would expect that you would understand our concern over the truth. Truth matters. And spiritual forces deceive.
FTR~ I have been baptized, 18 years ago, but months AFTER I was saved.
Also, I am a sister. Which I realize is hard to tell by my username. LOL Everyone makes the same mistake.
FTR~ I have been baptized, 18 years ago, but months AFTER I was saved.
But was in in HIS NAME?
If not...And you love His Name...
Then Why not do it now?
Is Yeshua's name not worth this Act to you?
Hmmmm?
But was in in HIS NAME?
Can you see me ROLLING MY EYES?

What did Jesus say?
John 3:5
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Water is not the word--water is water!
Matthew 3:16
And Jesus, when he was baptized, ....
Matthew 20
22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? ...
23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: ...
Jesus is talking about following Him by death burial and resurrection as I have stated many times.
John 13:36
Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
Follow Him through baptism.
Luke 12
50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!
We are not made straight either until we are baptized.
John 4:2
(Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)
Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:41
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
Added--added how? By Baptism! Added to what? To the Church of Christ. This is the ONLY way to be born again and the ONLY way to receive Christ name. The ONLY way to be a joint heir with Christ. The ONLY way to be a new creature in Christ.
Acts 16
33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
Baptism and believing in God go hand and hand.
Acts 18:8
And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
Acts 19:5
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Galatians 3:27
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
I could go on but I will stop this post with:
Romans 6
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
RELIGIOUS brainwashing has contaminated the truth about salvation in being baptized into His name.
But was in in HIS NAME?
Can you see me ROLLING MY EYES?

You Just flippantly denied Jesus' name... in favor of tradition...
Sad...
But then it is your walk with God, not mine....
While I disagree with Wilby's approach and what I believe are his views on the trinity (from quick glances at his posts), he is providing some truths about baptism. It is not an either/or but a both/and. Scripture clearly requires faith for our salvation (in so far as one is capable). But it also clearly states baptism as part of our salvation. Wilby has provided sufficient biblical support for this. Baptism as being regenerative (i.e. more than symbolic) and a part of our salvation is not only in scripture but was the unanimous consent of Christians until well after the reformation. Study Church history and you will see this. Can God save those who are not baptized but have faith? Of course he can. But the ordinary plan of our salvation is through both faith AND baptism. And the proper method of baptism is in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
