God is so wonderful, and the names of God in scripture help us finite creatures know more about our infinite God.

When I was talking with an intertribal church some years ago about the name of God as translated into their language, I realized that I did not know all the names of God revealed in scripture that I later heard grade school kids recite in front of their church.  Eventually I found a helpful site (allaboutGod), and made individual cards to try to memorize them and get them into my head a little better.  I would like to post them here, in a one name/one thread fashion.  Those who know Hebrew will probably have other spellings or treatments, and that would be welcome to see, but mainly the specific name and applicable verses are what I am going for here.

YHVH - Found more often in the OT than any other name for God, approx. 7,000 times.  The Tetragrammaton (The Four Letters).  The Hebrew verb "to be."  Declares God's absolute being--Creator, without beginning and without end.  Sometimes pronounced Jehovah, or Yaweh; the Jews stopped pronouncing this name by about 200 C.E. (A.D.) out of fear of breaking the commandment - Exodus 20:7 - Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

YHVH Tzidkaynu

The LORD our Righteousness

Jeremiah 33:16 - In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness.
