hey all,
please visit the wikipedia article at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jews_for_Jesus
it isn't in great shape. it could also use some pictures, if someone from JFJ would be willing to contribute an image to the public domain the article would be a lot better. for anyone that hasn't used wikipedia before -- anyone can edit it. (though the JFJ article requires you to register first). just click on the "edit" button.
and, "my experience with jews for jesus" -- 10-12 years ago i met a female jfj missionary in berkeley. not being christian or jewish, it wasn't right for me, but just learning that jfj existed was fascinating and made perfect sense to me. of all the peoples on the planet, it seems like the jewish should be the most predisposed to believe in jesus, though i can see why some jewish people might feel threatened by such a group.
anyhow i haven't forgotten our 3 minute discussion a decade later.
Wow, I just read the Wikipedia entry for JfJ from your link--and it is totally written as a contrarian--if not flat-out attack piece.
Even the first sentence of the entry seeks to discredit JfJ--and the "Critical responses" paragraph goes so far to call JfJ an attack on Judaism with a link to Wikipedia's entry for anti-Semitism!
Gee--who would'a known? -- JfJ is as bad as Hitler!
The three boxes set at the top of the JfJ entry by the moderators of Wikipedia say it all concerning the bias of the article:
1 unmoderated editing is locked because of recent vandalism,
2. the article's factual accuracy is in question,
3. the article may not be compliant with Wikipedia neutral content rules.
The "Critical responses" paragraph is ironic in that the introduction is critical of the organization in itself.
Someone from JfJ needs to contact Wikipedia and arrange to write a neutral introduction and beliefs paragraph for the ministry. Add in some links to JfJ leaders' bios and then just let the Jews for Judaism give out their written stripes.
After all Jesus did say, "Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also." John 15:11
Jews know what it is to be libeled and slandered. They should not engage in it themselves.
Job's friends were punished for bearing false witness on God's behalf. Eliphaz speaking of Job with the opinion all of them expressed: "Consider now: Who, being innocent, has ever perished? Where were the upright ever destroyed? Job 4:7 (In other words--you're getting what you deserve)
Then God sets the record straight:
After the Lord had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, "I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has. Job 42:7
Jews who are unconvinced of Jesus' Messiahship, let's debate--disagree with our strongest arguments, keep zeal for the Lord, but don't use under-handed tactics. (Like pretending you're a neutral observer of JfJ when you really have an axe to grind) Don't think God can be defended by bearing false witness.
Thankfully, much of the truth of the gospel message is still preserved in the descriptions, even though the article is written disapproving and disparaging JfJ. The Gospel is the Gospel whether given to Jews or Gentiles.
I am not a member of JfJ, but I support this ministry with donations and prayers.
God bless all who are zealous for his name!
Thanks for taking a look at it. I don't know why they can't let such a small well-meaning group be. It seems bigoted to me to say that it's OK to teach everyone about Jesus, as long as they aren't Jewish.
Does anyone at JfJ monitor this list? A photo for the article donated by JfJ would really improve it.
Thanks for looking out for JFJ
[color=green] Usually no one at Jews for Jesus monitors those things that seem to want to undermine what we are saying. As the founder of Jews for Jesus I rewrote the Wikipedia entry on Jews for Jesus just to correct the historical errors. They refused to make one change. They told me that according to their principles I did not have the right to post.
I guess I should console myself with the fact that my parents respected me (even if they could not believe in Jesus) My wife has found enough in our marriage to stay with me for 57 years. I get a great deal of affection from my two daughters and two grandchildren and I am delighted in them. I have a few friends despite the campaign against my character and that God loves me anyhow. It would be nice if Wikipedia was at least neutral but we will get it all sorted out when the Messiah comes to reign.
My wife, Ceil, says they should call it "Wickedpedia" but I guess it is worth what we paid for it.
why is anybody surprised...Paul and the disciples were slandered and beaten but nothing they said concernign the ressurection was ever disputed by the Pharisees and the Sadducees.
So the present day Pharisees and Sadducees revert to slander, innuendo and outright lies so what.
However I do agree with them that there is no Trinity either in Old testament(Talmud) nor the New Testament..
There is only One God and His name is Jesus...
As a can be Father,Son and Uncle and am one person
So can Jesus be Father Son and Holy Ghost and be One Person.
As far as the Wikipedia article give it to God...pray for those that dipitefully use you and say vain and slanderous things about you for your redemption draweth nigh.
