Without fanfare:  Is it possible that Russia's invasion of Georgia could be the beginning of the Gog war description, in Eze 38, with God putting Russia into a position to be 'turned back,' and 'hooks in the mouth?'

This is a question that has always popped into my head, when reading that chapter, concerning being able to 'turn back.'  Turning back means that the one being turned back is returning from someplace, I think.

My concern here is, at best, loose, and without Prophetic specifics, other than:  

(Eze 38:3 ESV)  and say, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.

(Eze 38:4 ESV)  And I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed in full armor, a great host, all of them with buckler and shield, wielding swords.

(Eze 38:5 ESV)  Persia, Cush, and Put are with them, all of them with shield and helmet;

(Eze 38:6 ESV)  Gomer and all his hordes; Beth-togarmah from the uttermost parts of the north with all his hordes--many peoples are with you.

I offer for discussion and enlightenment from those better read, and wiser than I.

I've been wondering the same thing, Navy. 25 years or more ago, a famous evangelist was preaching about the dangers of Gog and Magog...then the USSR broke up and I thought "well maybe that's one that didn't work out the way he preached." This week's headlines have changed all that.

For the Gog-Magog(Russians), Persia (Iran), Beth Togarmah (Turkey)  invasion of Israel to take place, they need to pass through and secure Georgia.  But they will perish on the mountains of Israel or what is now called the west bank (Eze.39:2).. every man's sword will be against his brother Eze.38:21) ...  just like in the days of Jehoshaphat ... the invasion will happen when the walls will be unwalled (Eze.38:11)

Your post just hit, so I could read it, but to your question:  I try not to allow my overactive immagination to go too fast, or far, but, basically:  Yes, I do believe that Southern Georgia will either become another seperate area, or an homoginized system, still a part of Georgia, yet bossed by Russia (I think something to that extent is either already agreed tol, or will soon be).  As to the 'ports,' Russia, as I understand, is quickly building a blue water port, or two, in Lebanon.  They will probably control port access in Georgia.

Once Russia has blue water ports to work with, the navy will have more than three to four months a year, able to go to sea, and the sea power factors will have to be radically adjusted, in favor of Russia.

All I can say, at this time, is basically, two weeks ago, I was digging hard, trying to figure out why the picture I see in the flow of events, had hit a stagnent point, concerning Russia's ability to do what Ezekiel says will happen.  Well,  Lemmme telllll ya,  I doubt no more, and I should have known that God does not always let things develop at a snails pace.  This week we saw the lightening bolt of events snap together with a great clap of thunder, and as far as I am concerned, tacit praise rendered to God, for being in 'Total' control.

Many people will, I fear, soon be dieing, and going to judgement, as the Tribulation gets rolling.  We who study God's word, and worship Father, Son, and Holly Goast, will probaly feel schitsophrenic, laughing and crying at the same time.  Laughing and praising as we watch and experience God at work, and crying for the souls going to judgement unsaved.

Pass through Georgia, or will Georgia join them? Hezbullah is already accusing Israel of losing the war for Georgia (same military analysts, apparently). Overthrow the Georgian president, install a pro-Russian Muslim president, and Georgia could very easily join in to share some of the booty and punish Israel for siding with the current Georgian president.

Assad meets with Moscow this week. Imanutjob meets with Turkey. Interesting times.

I saw a Messianic site that said Israel still has walls so Gog and Magog can't happen yet. Any thoughts on this?

Shalom, Chow Woman, and Whitelily,  Like I said to Rev320, I foolishly thought that I had miscalculated the timing of Russia's ability.  Now I don't.  

Don't you just love it?  God stops the attack in its tracks.  Israel cannot stop the attack, USA probably couldn't, or wouldn't react in time to help.  Knowing this, from the beginning of time, He knew, and decided, He would slap the attackers, hard (5 of 6 dead).  I, personally, am looking forward to how all them thar unsaved pilgrums try to explain how so many attackers can spontaniously die, when no one can/will defend Israel, not even Israel.

I could read a whole movie plot from Eze 39:2.  The 'Left Behind,' storyline sure did a good job.  If there is anyone out there that has not read the 'Left Behind' books, you have missed out on an excellent storyline of how a small group of people may/could suffer through the Great Tribulation.  Good fiction addressing factual future.

Hey Rev320,  I do, but the thought is weaker than a puff of smoke.  Israel does not really have walls perse', but them thar tall, concrete things are 'fences' in reality.  Nothing was said about fences.  See, I said: weak.  That is the best I could come up with when I was studying on that discrepancy of logic.

We will know, when we know, that's for sure.  Sufice it, to say, I do not expect Russia to back out of this situation without some type of mega-reward.
