Gen 32:24-30 NIV So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. (25) When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. (26) Then the man said, Let me go, for it is daybreak. But Jacob replied, I will not let you go unless you bless me. (27) The man asked him, What is your name? Jacob, he answered. (28) Then the man said, Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, [Israel means he struggles with God.] because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome. (29) Jacob said, Please tell me your name. But he replied, Why do you ask my name? Then he blessed him there. (30) So Jacob called the place Peniel, [Peniel means face of God.] saying, It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.
Now Menachem said "a man covered himself with dust". Others believe 'He entangled himself with him' (Sanhedrin 63b) and that 'He intertwines them' (Menachos 42a). What is interesting to note here is that Ya'akoov was asking this man to pronounce the blessing and we don't even know the Name of this man or do we? Was it Malki–Tzedek? Was it King of Shalem, a cohen of God Ha‘elyon, King Messiah? Was it the same Heavenly Being that visited Avraham? Sounds very mystical and messianic to me? It's almost like stating that the Divine Messiah (Savior and G-d Almighty) came in the flesh. Could the Jews who wrote the New Covenant claim this same Angel visited them?
Danny what was the small jar that Ya'akov had to go back for that our Rabbi's taught? Who is this man - the bridge of blessing that our Rabbi have hinted? What kind of a man did Ya'akov wrestle with? Please share with us Danny.
Mat 8:27 NIV The men were amazed and asked, What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!
A true Jew respects the sages opinion but wrestles and goes to the source for himself!
Psa 2:12 CJB Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and you perish along the way, when suddenly his anger blazes. How blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Pro 30:4 NIV Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Who has gathered up the wind in the hollow of his hands? Who has wrapped up the waters in his cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and the name of his son? Tell me if you know!
Blessed be my G-d and Savior Y'shua HaMashiach
