HOLY GHOST

The Holy Ghost also known as the Holy Spirit also known as the Comforter.

When I started this research I quickly noticed that the term Holy Ghost started at the birth of Jesus. The term Holy Spirit is throughout the old testemant. I never seen this before and I wander what is the significance.

First reference to holy spirit: (small letters)

Psalm 51:11
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

First reference to Holy Ghost: (capitalized)

Matthew 1:18
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

(The Holy Ghost came upon Mary to create Jesus's body BUT the Holy Ghost decended on Him when He was baptized.)
--Same format for us today--

John 1:33
And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

John 7:39
(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
(The Holy Ghost was given to man ONLY after His resurrection and at pentecost)

John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Spirit -- Ghost -- Comforter

Quickening Spirit

The Holy Ghost and or the Holy Spirit and or the Comforter also Quickens

What does quicken mean? TO be made alive!

According to Acts 2:38

Be baptized in the name of Jesus for the remission of the curse/all sin and you shall receive a GIFT--a gift from the Father--The Holy Ghost.

The Holy Ghost is what make you alive--we are considered dead unless we receive the Holy Ghost. Jesus was also quickend by the renewing of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is the life line to life--without it we are dead. The Holy Ghost is the Vine and we are the branches--fall away from the Vine and you WILL die.

Follow Jesus through Death, Burial and Resurrection CALLED the REGENERATION.

Romans 6:5
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

When we are planted (imersed in water) we are considered to be dead.
Dead to our old life--dead to our old man, dead to sin. The sin man in us died and the sin in Jesus also died as He became sin.
We are dead just like Jesus was dead. Without the Holy Ghost Jesus would have stayed dead.
Jesus, like us, was made alive by the quickening of the Holy Ghost.

Very interesting subject Wilby !
I was thinking about a few things about The Seven Spirits ?
Yoch 14:16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17Even The Spirit of Truth !
whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Isa11:  2And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

Rev1   4John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from THE SEVEN Spirits WHICH ARE " BEFORE " HIS THRONE .

Rev 1;5 5And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were SEVEN LAMPS OF FIRE BURNING "BEFORE " THE THRONE , WHICH ARE THE SEVEN SPIRITS of God.

Rev5;6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having SEVEN HORNS and SEVEN EYES , WHICH ARE THE SEVEN SPIRITS OF GOD  sent forth into all the earth.
Amen Wilby! We are His candle and the HG fell on the day of Pentecost as tongues or flames of fire, to light His "candles". The baptism in water is being baptized/planted into the likeness of His death, the baptism in the HG is being baptized into the likeness of His life.
Funny how we have two here who don't believe that the Holy Spirit is a separate Person, or God Himself, debating on what/who He is....wilby, a pantheist, and Anja, a polytheist.

The Truth is wilby that the Spirit is first mentioned in Genesis ONE. In the very second verse in the Bible:
1:2
The earth was unformed and void, darkness was on the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God hovered over the surface of the water.

And then, throughout scripture He is present. Pharoah said of Moses in Gen 41:38: "Can we find anyone else like him? The Spirit of God lives in him!"

And that is only one of many, MANY scriptures that talk about the indwelling of the Holy Spirit BEFORE Christ's life, death, resurrection.

Do a simple search on Spirit with your Bible software or online LIKE THIS

We see the Spirit as a PERSON, with attributes and emotions (being grieved, for example). And the Spirit IS God. YHWH. Just like Jesus is.

Which is why we are Trinitarians. Not because the RCC "made it up", but because scripture teaches it; in both Old and New Testaments.

The seven spirits you speak of are are seven angels--nothing to do with the Holy Spirit.
Anja Andreas--this scripture you quoted brought back memories of how I first felt after I was baptized and received the Holy Spirit many years ago.

Isa11:2
And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

I was really aware of the fear of the Lord and rightly so.

Many scripture on fearing the Lord here are a few more.

Psalm 103:17
But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;

Psalm 111:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

God's love is different from our love--we love each other by feelings and we can only show our love to Him by obedience to His words and commandments. He is a just God and His judgement is based on the word and how we followed Jesus. We are accountable for all things we do--yes there is remission for our mistakes if we apply it correctly.

The Holy Ghost does many great things for us but BEWARE it will also witness against us!

FEAR God enough to be scared straight. Saying I love you Jesus means little if you are not following His commandments.

The other statement I would like to comment on is the word 'WITNESS'.

You can ONLY be a TRUE witness for Christ if you have the Holy Ghost as the Holy Ghost was there when Christ was resurrected. The Holy Ghost in you is what gives you the proof of His resurrection and without the Holy Ghost you are not a witness to Christ resurrection.

Remember to Fear the Lord for ONLY He can destroy both body and soul.

1 Peter 3:15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Revelation 15:4
Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.
Why is the Holy Ghost referred to as the Comforter?

Lamentations 15

16 For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed.

17 Zion spreadeth forth her hands, and there is none to comfort her: the LORD hath commanded concerning Jacob, that his adversaries should be round about him: Jerusalem is as a menstruous woman among them.

There was no comforter for Israel BUT now there is a Comforter and it shall remain forever.

John 14

15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Jesus said to go to all nations baptizing into His name and then you will receive the promise…the Holy Ghost.

Jesus was baptized to fulfill all righteousness – baptism is NOT works—Jesus called it fulfilling righteousness, meaning to do what is right.

Jesus commanded communion for remission of sin after baptism so we may continue to have a good conscience toward the Father.

Jesus’ blood remits sin at baptism and during communion. Taking communion unworthy is why there are many week and sickly in the church. The church being the body of Christ.

We are regenerated when we are baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. Included in Baptism and being filled and made alive by the Holy Ghost is:

We receive His name at the rebirth.
We are joint-heirs with Christ
We are in the body of Christ of which He is the head.
Our name is written in the Book of Life
We are the church.
We are new creatures in Christ.
We are a Royal Priesthood.
We are sons.
Christ is in us and we are in Christ and Christ is in the Father—we are all of one spirit.
Those that overcome and endure unto the end the Father will call them sons.

Baptism in Jesus name is commanded to us --the Holy Ghost is included in this commandment as a GIFT--a promise from the Father

Following His commandments leads to salvation and LIFE --EVERLASTING LIFE

Making your own way to salvation is death!!

Are you saved according to scripture? Are you filled with the Spirit of promise.

Christ is the Vine and we are the branches stay in Him and you stay alive.

Be filled with the Comforter.
Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost is possibly the worst thing a person can do.

Matthew 12:31
Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

Main Entry: blas·phe·my
Pronunciation: ˈblas-fə-mç
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural blas·phe·mies
Date: 13th century
1 a: the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God
b: the act of claiming the attributes of deity
2: irreverence toward something considered sacred or inviolable

Matthew 12:32
And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Mark 3:29
But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.

Do NOT show contempt or a lack of reference toward the Holy Ghost. It gives us life, it leads and guides us into all truth, it helps us to say the right words at the right time, it gives us authority and power, it is our life line to the Father through the Son, the Christ.

One Lord, One Spirit, One Baptism
Our "mind" is not just our conscious thoughts, our intellect, or our brain but a whole conceptual process. Our "mind" begins with the spirit that resides at the core of our being.  That spirit then creates the thoughts of our hearts, which in turn produces the actions of our lives.  This whole process, we said, is called our "mind."  There are seven stages or functions that form this conceptual process called "mind." Each function (each stage) depends upon and builds from the previous one.

In parallel, the Mind of Christ is the very same seven-fold process.  Only the Mind of Christ is a "divine" process of thinking.  It's God's Holy Spirit that creates God's supernatural thoughts in our hearts and through a process (again by His Spirit) produces those thoughts as Godly actions out in our lives.

My understanding for this seven-fold process of thinking comes from Isaiah 11:1-2: "And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots [this is Jesus, of course]: and the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, [that is] the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel and Might, the Spirit of Knowledge and the Fear of the Lord;"

This passage offers us a clear study path to understanding the Mind of Christ:

   1. The Spirit of the Lord
   2. The Spirit of Wisdom
   3. The Spirit of Understanding
   4. The Spirit of Counsel
   5. The Spirit of Might
   6. The Spirit of Knowledge
   7. The Fear of the Lord

It's the Holy Spirit's mission - with our consent - to produce this "mind" in us, so that we can "live the truth" and the Gospel can be passed on to others.

The Mind of Christ, therefore, is simply a process by the Holy Spirit in which the Word of God in our hearts becomes a living reality in our lives.  Simply stated, the Mind of Christ is God's supernatural Thoughts (Logos) produced in our lives by His supernatural Power (Dunamis).

However (and this is very important): this "divine" conceptual process by the Holy Spirit does not automatically occur.  Only as we, moment by moment, "renew our minds" by putting off the garbage in our own thinking are we able to receive from the Holy Spirit, not only the Mind of Christ, but also God's Agape Love.  Should we choose not to renew our minds, we will quench God's Spirit, and once again His Mind and His Love will be blocked in our hearts.
This phenomenal gift of the Mind of Christ was not just given to Yeshua and a few "chosen" men in the Bible, but it is bestowed upon each of us the moment we believe and accept Christ into our hearts.

The purpose of the Mind of Christ in us is that we might "know" (oida - to see or to intimately experience) the things freely given to us by God.  1 Corinthians 2:12-16 confirms this: "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.  Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Spirit teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.  But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.  But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.  For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him?  But we have the Mind of Christ."

God not only desires for us to intimately know "the things that are freely given to us" by Him, but He also wants us to judge all the things that happen to us, not through our own eyes (own mind), but from His Mind (through His Wisdom, Counsel and Knowledge, etc.).

"He shall make him of quick understanding [renewed thinking] in the fear of the Lord.  And he shall not judge after the sight of his [own] eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his [own] ears; but with righteousness [Mind of Christ] shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth..." (Isaiah 11:3-4)
