I am a Christian and have been all my life. I would like for someone to tell me if the OT has talmud influence.  Is the OT corrupted by parts of the talmud? I have read the talmud and how anyone with a conscience could believe the things in those books just makes me shudder.  The parts concerning sexual activities with children and animals is beyond belief. Please, don't anyone write me and tell me that is not the truth. I have studied most of it for myself. Thanks for any help.
No, Becky.  The Talmud is a post-O.T.and N.T. document with claims of oral traditions interspersed within it.  Certain Oral Traditions are thought to have come down from Sinai itself.  However, many stories and rulings (such as the use of a bat qol [heavenly voice from on high - 'the daughter of the voice"] to trump Scripture) are also used as a means of brain-washing as well.

The Ultra-Orthodox insist on a 7 1/2 year commitment for over 5 hours a day for 2,711 days, in which (at about a page a day), you will read one sentence or expression in the Torah, and a few seconds later read the selection of the Talmud that goes with it.  Pretty soon, Torah is as if Commentary and Commentary is as if Torah.  We should be gentle with these people, and pray for them, and ask Messhiach to be revealed upon their hearts and minds.  It is sometimes acceptable  to simply stay within the Tenach, and introduce thoughts of the New Testament into the discussion without quoting the N.T. source.  You may even be amazed on how agreeable the N.T. thought process is to them, before they realize it is "from those kind of people".

Also, those who attend such shuls, sometimes repeat the process again, and except for the Haftaros readings of certain books of other parts of the Old Testament, would not have a clue as to what appears in the rest of the Jewish Bible.  Even today, most of the state of Israel is agnostic, and will know as much or more Talmudic teachings than Bible teachings.  The Mishnaic period starts about 190 A.D., The Jerusalem Talmud is into the 300's, and the Babylonian (the most complete version of 2,711 pages and about 2 million words) are into the 500's A.D.

With the exception of 2,3 John - the New Testament was composed and published between 47 A.D.'s Jerusalem conference and the months immediately following the martyrdom of Peter and Paul on June 29, 57 A.D.  (or circa August/September for I John and John's Gospel, which were written about the same time).  I can extensively prove this historically, but so far, no one seems willing to see proof that a late date of Revelation is to ignorantly or maliciously misquote Irenaeus and the second century testimonials.

Hope this helps.  Shalom.
Yes I agree with Brianroy. The Torah in its present form is much older than the Talmud, and the NT writings may be older than the source materials of the Talmud, but both books were both consolidated around the same time (around 300AD) into its present forms. The Talmud includes quotes from rabbis such as Hillel, who is slightly older than or a contemporary of Jesus.  Stories learned by Jewish children include midrashes and other materials that aren't in the OT. Mohammed included a number of their midrashes to form his Koran.

I haven't read sections that talk about child molestation or beastiality in the Talmud, but it wouldn't surprise me. Judaism is a very controlling, 'neanderthalic' religion. I converted to Judaism on the deathbed urging of my jewish step-father and I'm glad I did. I was very naive about this religion when I married. I suspect too that there are sex scandals on the scale of the Catholic Church in Judaism, as well as prehaps...a legacy of child abuse & incest issues within Jewish families - to use sin as emotional blackmail to keep members separate from the gentile community and jewish. I believe these are issues the Jewish community as a whole are in denial about or deliberately cover up. But enough with conspiracy theories... Fortunately, I haven't had children yet, so I can leave my jewish husband with no problems.
Another thought, Becky.

In Judaism today, there is the acceptance of the "tradition" over the Bible, much like in the Roman Catholic Church, and certain rigid Protestant denominations...so that if a rabbi says that the plain text doesn't mean this or that, you are expected to heed the rabbi over the Scripture.  In Catholicism and certain Protestants, this too has occurred between priests and people.

Both the "rabbinic" Jew and the "priestly" Christian are brought to a rigidity in which they are so near the truth, but choose an alternate stairway to Heaven (as it were).  While they leave the Bible uncorrupted, the dreams and visions and bat qols and rulings from wise ones or leaders, or even other revelations, crowd out the Scriptures and become THE Divine Revelation by which one must now abide by and be saved by.  So that, if you follow the Bible over the objections of the rabbi...or the Bible over the objections of the priest...you are now outside of G-D's grace and are heading toward a fiery destruction in the after-life.  You must come under the umbrella of the rabbi, or of this or that Church, as if either of these had authority to save you by trust into something other than Jesus Christ, and His full atonement and finished work upon the Cross -- once and for all time.

The Scriptures themselves remain uncorrupted...while the doctrines instituted by men do not.

We, as Christians, therefore, cannot criticize the rabbinate for what our own Institutions of "Faith" has also committed in error.  Instead, we must approach the wrongness of false doctrine and bad reasoning...to hate the sin, but love the sinner who will heed and show a willingness to at least reason.  This is not always easy to do.  Israel is the tree from which we (Jew and Christian) all sprang and are grafted into...it is in our best interests to make the tree healthy, pray for Israel and its people, pray for the Church and its saints, and be constantly watered in G-D's Holy Word, the Bible (Old and New Testaments).

May G-D bless His people Israel, keep them all safe, healthy, and prosperous.  May HASHEM reveal the true doctrine of Messhiach upon all their hearts, and bring His eternal Kingdom in Heaven upon the Earth, and speedily rebuild His Temple.  Blessed ROSH HaSHANA to you all. Amen, and Shalom.

Hi Becky, I would urge you not to believe the things you read on the internet about the Talmud, nor isolated quotes. They are often
fabricated, misleading, or downright lies. The Talmud is not something
one can study alone, nor try to understand by oneself. There are
multiple internet sites that are virulently anti-Talmud (and many
times anti-semitic) and again you cannot rely on these sites.
The Talmud fills in the gaps that the Torah has- like how to slaughter
animals, what are mezuzot, tefillin, how to observe shabbat, etc.
Since Jews were also a civilization there is much civil law in there
too...if you want to see good explanations debunking all these false
statements on the Talmud on the internet, go to www.jewsforjudaism.com and go to the forums section....
