Pope Pius XII, head of the Roman Catholic church from 1939 to 1958, has been proposed as a candidate for cannonization (That is, the RCC would declare him to be a saint if approved). This would be a controversial move, especially with many Jews, given that he was pope during the Holocaust. Much has been made about PPXII's failure to condemn the Nazis during their reign, even when it must have been plain to the Vatican what was happening to Europe's Jews under Hitler.

This is a big WHAT-E-VER for me....the RCC does not decide who saints are, God does. And His saints don't wait to "get a vote on it from a bunch of men" after our death....we just are.
A shame that todays German Pope wants this.
Also people should dive into the period of Pius XI and what Pius XII did during those days, when Hitler and the Pope organized that in a next war the church will not protect ''politicall'' enemys anymore etc. Or why ''Mein Kampf'' was not placed on the list of forbidden books by catholics to read, while Luther, Darwin and the Bible where still on the list of forbidden books, Mein Kampf was decided o.k.
To many facts why pope Pius XII shouldn't be declared saint. For me it will be a proof that the Church still wants to cover up it's past etc. But o.k. it became also partly a politicall movement, who decides what nations are to be protected and wich not.
Pious could have stopped the Nazi's dead in its tracks by declaring
anyone who kills Jews excomunicated...In that day and age evey catholic would have thought twice whether German,Pole or whatever nationality.
I also find it interesting that the only Pole executed for treason in WW2 was a Jewess named hannah Shanesh...who fought against the Nazi's in Poland...as tried by a Catholic General for treason because "she fought against Polands government" yet not one Polish Catholic was exectuted for the same crime...after the war the General in question was tried for war crimes and got one year for murdering a 22 yr old girl.
Pious isn't no saint...and hell is too good for him.
