I pause and recognize that this art may disturb many. How the cross can be a thing of beauty is strange to those that are not its adherents. Those of the Faith view the suffering and death as Divine love and mercy for all humanity. Indeed, it is a terrible beauty, an immense paradox.
For the most part, in this country we tend to make Christ look like he was a man out of European culture, or sometimes African American. I like the idea of Christ looking more like a Jewish man, side locks and all. I did it that way because I have never seen him depicted on a cross in a manner that authentically indicates that he was a Jew. His hair has the hint of "ruddy" so as to suggest that he is from the line of King David, like the scriptures tell that Messiah would be.
So, my art could be a gift for the Jews for Jesus -
is that OK, considering the "no graven images commandment"? If you like, spread around. Tell me where else I should share. Artistic feedback welcomed. Feedback about the writing at the blogspot is also welcomed (perhaps needed).

My pencil drawing and some details about the art are at the site, as well as some ideas behind the art and things that I needed to get off my chest. If you are not into talking about religion, politics, and racism, just check out the art. The art encapsulates the written ideas that are there anyway. My art is a mixed media sandwich made up of many, many layers of digital painting with my pencil drawing being the meat in the middle.
I'm not sure if I want to keep the sparks?
Peace.
You have added to my appreciation of the eternal! Thankyou.
Truly, he was the teacher of the law (rabbi) without authority (beard plucked out) crucified.
How approachable we all become when we humble ourselves for the cross... the cross.... the cross...
How delightful it is to know the countenance you have given Christ will haunt me every time I begin to contemplate failing in sin again.
one comment...
... it is a misconception that Christ had the dignity of a crown on the cross.
I am sorry if that deflates you, but Christ in you will stand firm.
Some of what you say is unclear to me.
It is a crown of thorns, as you likely know. It points back to the curse in Genesis, that about the thorns and thistles - you likely already know that as well. I did research on whether Christ had the crown on the cross or not. The Gospels are not clear. The Roman soldiers made the crown to mock him. A sign hung above the cross that said "king of the Jews". A king needs his crown. It seems logical that the soldiers would leave the crown on to continue their mocking of him. So, I depicted him wearing the crown. Alas, we do not know if it was on or off when Yeshua was upon the tree. Do you have information that suggests otherwise?
Another interesting point about the crown - I did a study on Roman crowns. Often they wore a crown of leaves. Also, when a great Roman general conquered a land, a crown was made for him out of the bushes, grasses, flowers, etc. of the conquered land. It was a high honor for him to wear such crowns. The soldiers put that crown of thorns on Yeshua to mock him. They did not realize the truth of what they did. Yeshua conquered the curse from Genesis for us. The thorns came from the curse. A crown was made for Yeshua out of the land that he conquered. Of course, there is more Messiah will do upon his second coming. I pray for it. I am among those that long for the Messiah to return.
