How do we explain sin. Did G-d create sin, and the Devil? The Bible says G-d created all things. Good and evil. So then did G-d mess up?and how could G-d make a mistake when He is supposed to be perfect? How could G-d allow all the bad things to happen in this world ?How could Satan , an Angel deny G-d when he was directed by G-d.? My life has sometimes sure felt hurt ! Especially opening this can of worms?
Here's my take on it, from a similar thread: my post there and subsequent posts, esp #20.

God didn't create evil, just like He did not create sin.

He created the creatures that became evil/sinful. That's a different statement.

What He did create (in us, angels and man) was free will.
The only two explanations, I find, are:

Quote:

Isaiah 45:1-12 (New King James Version)

Isaiah 45
Cyrus, God’s Instrument
1 “Thus says the LORD to His anointed,
      To Cyrus, whose right hand I have held—
      To subdue nations before him
      And loose the armor of kings,
      To open before him the double doors,
      So that the gates will not be shut:
       2 ‘ I will go before you
      And make the crooked places[a] straight;
      I will break in pieces the gates of bronze
      And cut the bars of iron.
       3 I will give you the treasures of darkness
      And hidden riches of secret places,
      That you may know that I, the LORD,
      Who call you by your name,
      Am the God of Israel.
       4 For Jacob My servant’s sake,
      And Israel My elect,
      I have even called you by your name;
      I have named you, though you have not known Me.
       5 I am the LORD, and there is no other;
      There is no God besides Me.
      I will gird you, though you have not known Me,
       6 That they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting
      That there is none besides Me.
      I am the LORD, and there is no other;
       7 I form the light and create darkness,
      I make peace and create calamity;
      I, the LORD, do all these things.’
       8 “ Rain down, you heavens, from above,
      And let the skies pour down righteousness;
      Let the earth open, let them bring forth salvation,
      And let righteousness spring up together.
      I, the LORD, have created it.
       9 “ Woe to him who strives with his Maker!
      Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth!
      Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’
      Or shall your handiwork say, ‘He has no hands’?
       10 Woe to him who says to his father, ‘What are you begetting?’
      Or to the woman, ‘What have you brought forth?’”
       11 Thus says the LORD,
      The Holy One of Israel, and his Maker:

      “ Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons;
      And concerning the work of My hands, you command Me.
       12 I have made the earth,
      And created man on it.
      I—My hands—stretched out the heavens,
      And all their host I have commanded.

Romans 9:14-18 (New King James Version)

14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! 15 For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.”[f] 16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.”[g] 18 Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.

Very well said Yehudiah of Yesuah. I always learn when I ask instead of answer. I think there is a scripture for that statement also? I thought I should get back to this issue, as I feel it is the greatest stumbling block to unbelief in G-d there is? Why is there hate, and murder, and greed,sickness and death, and horrendous crimes committed? Men and women both ask these questions. If there was a G-d ; How could He ; with infinite power to change anything/ anywhere/past/present/future; Allow these things to occur?How can this define a G-d; defined as Love? If God was alpowerfull and perfect how could evil have been created except on purpose, or the G-d of Israel; Jesus; whoever we believe Him to be is a lie, and its just a whacked out roller coaster ride of lifes accidental  creation of an ameba;turned fish, turned monkey; turned man , and evolution goes on?It seems the last scenario comes the easiest, as I do resemble a monkey somewhat, but it seems like more; de-evolution if that scenario was true?I asked this question because I see in the sum of all these posts combined each of us saying; I have a right to my own opinion?All through life ; men fight and strive to make their personal understanding speak true, and do not wish anothers advise; Do not tell me what to do;but when we make a mistake;with consequences, we blame G-d for giving us a choice? ( Is that called a hypocrite ?)I am running out of space; I'll continue later?If there are two plates of food in front of you; one delicious, and one poisonous,and the plate of poison looked tempting to the eye, (more than the delicious food of life) and I said; one is poison, and one is life; and pointed to life;then to the poison, and clearly stated ; Do not eat that plate of poison or you will die! Is it our tendancy to say; Don't tell me what to eat; What do you think your smarter than me or something? Again it comes to the point; If the plate had poison then why even sit on the table?

So how far are you willing to take this "God created evil because He created everything that exists" statement?

Did God create:
Murder?
Rape?
Torture?
Greed?
Lies?
Covetousness?
Pride?
Anarchy?

Did He place those thoughts in men's minds? They all exist, did they originate with Him?? All the horrible little details? (I watch a lot of crime shows, it never ceases to amaze me what horrible things people can do to others.)

Where's the line between God's "creation of evil" and man's autonomic creativity?

It sounds plausable when you simply use the word "evil", but when you think it through and realize what it really means, you will come to the truth that God did not create evil, He allowed/s it.

We are created in His image in that we are autonomous in our self-awareness (sentient beings) and we are creative, like Him.

Evil is where we depart from His character, and fail to submit to His authority, wisdom, and love. He gave us the ability to choose to submit and be like Him, or not. We chose self-rule. Same with Satan, and the fallen angels.

Beyond that there are no scriptures that say God is responsible for evil, nor did He create it. Everything He created He declared "very good".
I have to almost agree with Ripley's.

Hashem created man with free will. That means we have a choice whether to do what is right or do what is wrong. That is why Hashem said to "choose" the good and receive the blessings.

If there was no evil, then there would be no good. It would just be, well, I don't know, normal I guess.

Of course the Jews believe man is created with free will, but we do not believe that angels are. Angels or "messengers" which is the real meaning of the Hebrew word, are just that, messengers. They are sent for a mission by Hashem. They don't have a choice, they must obey.

Well, THANKS! SMR! *lol*

Good can and did exist before evil: God is Good, He is Eternal.

The existence of evil has nothing to do with the existence of good. And, yes, it would be quite normal..like it will be in heaven: "all good, all the time"!! Hallalujah!

I haerd the words of an American president say once; Far better is it to dare mighty things, and win glorious triumphs; though checkered with failure , than to take rank with those poor spirits who do neither enjoy much, or suffer much, for they live in the grey twighlight that knows not victory , or defeat! Those words have stayed with me , and I see now they reflect G-d's spirit in part!. Perhaps He made us not to be puppets on a string. To understand our actions , and know right from wrong/ Love and Hate.In His Image?  Maybe to have a Choice is to understand other choices? .Maybe the consequences of knowing what love is, is to know hate?and to fail? Many choices are there , but what do we choose? Is Murder and hate G-d's choice, or our own?

I never said that God committed any crimes, but merely that He takes credit for any events caused by crimes, and even what caused the crime in some cases. Even with Iyov, Pharaoh, and Esav, there is predestiny.
