Concerning the resurrection from the dead: Apostles’ teachings
"Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?" It is evident that there must have been some among the believers in Paul’s day who disputed the resurrection of the dead as he had asked them this question. Paul explained that if there is no resurrection from the dead then Christ did not rise from the dead and the Apostles preaching is in vain, and the believer’s faith is also in vain. Paul declares that they themselves would be bearing a false witness against God by testifying by him the resurrection of the dead. (Isaiah 26:19-21.) Thy dead men shall live; together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead. Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be over past. For, behold the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain. These scriptures found in Isaiah give indication of a resurrection and a refuge from the wrath of God to come as the scripture declares the Lord will rise up to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their wicked sinfulness. If Christ did not rise from the dead, then our faith is in vain and we are yet in our sins and the wrath of God abides on us. (1Thes. 1:10) “And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” According to this scripture Jesus has delivered us from that wrath to come. “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” We are saved from the wrath through his dead body. (Col: 1:21-22) “And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:” We shall be saved by his life. (The resurrection. Is.26:19 “together with my dead body they shall arise.”) “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” To those who may have disputed the resurrection, Paul calls in question on what they believed and were instructed on as he asked them: "Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead?" Apparently, according to the Apostle’s teaching baptism has something to do with death. Paul declares in the book of Romans that one who has been baptized into Christ was baptized into his death, being buried with him by baptism. If one was planted in the likeness of his death, being a partaker of his death, then he shall also be a partaker of his resurrection, being in the likeness of his resurrection. (Rom 6:3-6) “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the sinful body might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin.” It appears, according to the Apostle’s teaching, here in baptism the sin issue is settled. Again Paul declares in the Book of Colossians that a believer is circumcised with the circumcision of Christ by being buried with him in baptism: “and you were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. And you, who were dead in trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,” Apparently this is where God performs the spiritual operation of circumcision by the putting off the body of sin. (Uncircumcision of the flesh) and putting on the circumcision of Christ. (His righteousness) Unrighteousness is put off and his righteousness is put on being made alive with him. Paul writes: There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, and we are all baptized into one body by one Spirit according to the scripture. “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit” Apparently that one Body is Christ as the scripture declares that we are baptized into Christ. Gal 3: 27“For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” Is this a water baptism or Spirit baptism? According to the Apostles teachings it is both. (1Corth. 6:11) Jesus declared one must be born of water and of the Spirit in order to enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5) There are three elements of salvation: Blood, water, and Spirit. (1 John 5:8) Jesus points Nicodemus to Calvary (the blood) after his message of the new birth. All three of these elements can be found in the deliverance of the Hebrews from the bondage of Egyptians. Blood of a lamb applied on door post and lintels; Water- Red Sea baptism; Spirit- cloud, fire. All three elements were involved in the deliverance process. The Egyptians are in type the body of sin. The blood of the lamb loosens the grip of the Egyptians (Bondage to the body of sin). The Egyptians are destroyed as they were covered by the Red Sea. (Death and burial of the body of sin) The cloud and fire provided protection, provisions (comforter) and direction as they were led by the Spirit. Paul writes “Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;” Baptized (Water, Spirit) unto Moses (one body) by one Spirit. According to Apostles’ teachings they taught remission of sin through the name of Jesus in water baptism with the infilling of the Holy Ghost. 1Corth. 1:13, 1Corth.6: 11, Acts 10: 43, Acts 2: 38, Acts 22:16 1John 2: 12, Acts 19: 4-6, 1John 3:23, 1John 5:13, John 3: 18, John 20:31, Acts 4:12. Baptized into Christ though his name at water baptism and filled with his Spirit. (Christ in you which is the Holy Ghost) Jesus declared “In that day you shall know that I am in my Father and you in me, and I in you.”
“For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.”
