I am finding it impossible to exist in the Christian Church anymore because of the focus on abortion. It has become an exclusionary issue that trumps war, torture, greed, and violence.

I grew up around Jews and had little of the bigotry and condemnation I am experiencing as a returning Catholic in the church.

I am very concerned that the division with the Christian Church between the right and the left of American politics has turned into a kind of national socialism that weirdly represents World War II. There is a lack of freedom of thought and the opposition has become a group of bullies.

As I am pushed farther in the background by the Christian right, I am pulled closer to God but farther away from my country and my beliefs as a citizen.

What am I doing wrong? I have wavered between Judiasm and Christianity my whole life. I am disgusted by the single issue position of the church but I will never deny the Messiah.

Where the hell does one go? Is this just a singular walk or am I with others?

I am not qualified to comment on what you may be doing wrong concerning Judaism; I will leave that to others more knowledgeable than I.

However  on the matter of Christianity, maybe what you are doing wrong is confusing Bible-only Christianity with the Roman Catholic Church; i.e., 'the immoveable object meets the irresistible force'  until you get that sorted first you will never get anything right!

Both Protestants and Catholics are having problems within themselves on this issue. The issue will in the end comes down to what does Scripture teach on the intentional killing of unborn babies in the womb of a woman. From the Biblical data it is safe to say that Abortion is Murder.

I myself experienced some bigotry from some Roman Catholics for my rejecting the claims of the  papacy since I found could not be supported in the writings of the early church fathers prior to 300 ad and a rejection of the Council of Trent, Vat I and Vat II as being heretical doctrinally. And have embraced the five solas of the Reformation in 1992.

What should happen is that Christians need to follow the biblical commands on moral issues which has bearing on the morality of where we live.

To be closer to God is to see evil what how He defines it in Scripture. And call sin for what it really is.

You must subject yourself to the authority of Scripture. Once that happens things will fall in to place. God reveals what is sin and like or or not we must bow before God and see evil for what it is. And through the study of Scripture embrace what is true.

We go to the Apostolic teachings of the Apostles which are found in the infallible Scriptures. We are not alone in our life as a Christian. We must find a fellowship of good biblically grounded fellowships where the word of God is preached and believed.
I was once a Catholic, but the rules both of the Catholic  and many other Christian became a very large problem to me. I have not been in a church for many years now. The last place of worship I was in happen to be a Synagogue for a Barmitzfah(sp). I found that a very uplifting experience.
Abortion is the modern American Holocaust.

Obama voted in the Illinois State Senate for the right to drown new born babies that the mother has decided she doesn't want at the last moment.   Babies that abortion doctors see delivered alive and healthy and crying are to either be drowned (which Obama argued to allow) until dead, or are to crushed and dismembered while alive and attached to the  umbilical cord.   Sacrifices that become relabeled as "medical waste", and are scientifically relabeled from the Old Testament "offerings to Molech".

Who are the bigots who disrespect the Creator G-D so much, that when the Bibles says,

Lo, children are an heritage of the L-RD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

in Psalm 127:3, they think themselves either Christian or Jewish or religious to offer up to Him rotting and torn up body parts.

How is Your position so religious to honoring G-D, when the very promotion of abortion, in light of Psalm 127:3 says,   "Here's your reward, L-RD.  This is all YOUR fault!"

Where's the bigotry and the hatred coming from, if you were to  hypothetically re-evaluate the issue as if an angel from Heaven watching on the sidelines, then?  From the anti-G-D activists of the Left, as well as any lesser numbers in the middle or even lesser numbers on the Right.  There are no abortions or murders or maimings of any kind in Heaven.

Barack Obama said at Notre Dame, on May 17, 2009, if his 'daughters should grow older and get pregnant, why should they be PUNISHED if they don't want the babies they're carrying?",  or words to this effect.  Babies, human lives, are meant to be viewed as a JOY, not as medical waste or cancer or "Punishment".   And Jesus said what about children?  Go look it up.
Following the 10 commandments requires strength of character which we do not always have therefore people may get pregnant when they do not wish to.  To compound the sin by committing murder is not the answer.
Those in the know seem to think that people who commit terrible perversions on others may have grown up with a propensity to commit cruelty on helpless animals and then to "progress" to human beings.  What does it say then, about nations who find it sinless to carry out wholesale murder on defenseless unborns?  What will we "progress" to next?

Abortion is a sin of violence, greed, torture and war against the unborn. We are careless of our own in that we abandon our children and our old and disabled to the streets.  We do not educate or feed the rest of the world and we pay the third world the gross indignity of considering them worth less than we westerners.  Human beings commit sin against each other all the time.  It does not make it right.

The use of abortion to satisfy our carnal needs without consequence is a sympton of all that is wrong with us.  We are selfish, careless and unkind to each other and without the saving grace of faith we are unable to step out of the mire onto clean ground. We need God to guide us towards the light and murdering our young is hardly the way to make the world a better place for all.

The right or left wing, conservative or liberal should not even disagree on this issue.  Murder is murder whatever the age of the victim.  When did you become you?  Me? At conception.
