It may not be immediately obvious to everyone, but one family are convinced they can see the face of Jesus on the lid of a jar of Marmite.

Claire Allen, 36, said she was the first to notice the image on the underside of the lid as she was putting the yeast spread on her son's toast.

Her husband Gareth, 37, said he could not believe his eyes when he saw it.

Mr Allen, of Ystrad, Rhondda, said: "The kids are still eating it, but we kept the lid."

He explained: "Claire saw it first and called her dad to come and take a photo of it.

"When I first looked at it I wasn't sure, but when I moved it away from me it started coming out. I thought yeah, she's right - that's the image of Jesus.

Mrs Allen said her 14-year-old son Jamie had also remarked on the likeness.

She told the South Wales Echo: "Straight away Jamie said 'that looks like God', and my other boys (Robbie, four, and Tomas, 11) even said they could see a face.

"People might think I'm nuts, but I like to think it's Jesus looking out for us.

"We've had a tough couple of months; my mum's been really ill and it's comforting to think that if he is there, he's watching over us."

How does anyone know what he looked like?
I agree 100% with you, we as Christians do not know what Jesus looked like, other than that he was Jewish. Probably tanned skin with curly black hair and a fluffy beard I presume.

Hi Rabbi Yisroel ben Avrohom,

The general understanding of Jesus' appearance comes from
The Shroud of Turin and the Byzantine and Medieval artwork based upon it.

One Jew's testimony about the Shroud:

My name is Barrie M. Schwortz, . . . As the Official Documenting Photographer for the Shroud of Turin Research Project, Inc., (STURP), I was privileged to be a member of the team that completed the first extensive scientific examination of the Shroud of Turin in 1978. Between October 8 and October 14, 1978, our team spent 120 hours with the Shroud of Turin.

In the earliest stages of my involvement , I wondered whether someone raised as an Orthodox Jew should be a part of such a "Christian" project. Even then I clearly understood that this was probably the most important relic of Christianity. In my heart I asked myself, "Should I be a part of this?" But my good friend and fellow team member, the late Don Lynn, of NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, was quick to remind me that the man in question was also a Jew. He urged me to "go to Turin and do the best job possible" and worry about "why and for what purpose" when I got back. He suggested that one day, I would know. I have never regretted taking his advice.

Now, over twenty years later, my "purpose" has become very clear. As the Documenting Photographer for the project, I felt a responsibility to complete what I began, and make available some of the 2700 photographs and other materials I collected during the four years of the project. And finally tell the story of what took place in my own words and from my perspective. Frankly, I am still Jewish, yet I believe the Shroud of Turin is the cloth that wrapped the man Jesus after he was crucified. That is not meant as a religious statement, but one based on my privileged position of direct involvement with many of the serious Shroud researchers in the world, and a thorough knowledge of the scientific data, unclouded by media exaggeration and hype. The only reason I am still involved with the Shroud of Turin is because knowing the unbiased facts continues to convince me of its authenticity.

Shalom Yisroel.

The latest physics news behind the Shroud are astounding. They involve what is known as "event" horizons and the necessary quantum mechanics involved with the production of the Resulting Image. As the Old and New cycles of time itself became one in an yet specifically undefined Pos/neg,
Neg/pos- One, the actual peace and foundational stability necessary to hold the univerese as we know it together, not just in a physical sense but in a spiritual sense as well was found IN the person of Christ, the Alpha, the Omega, the beginning and the end.

The image bears withness to the suspension of all time and space continuim being brought about together through the resurrection power of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Father Son and Holy Spirit of Eternity
I contacted a fellow Christian in Ystrad who has served as a pastor in one of the churches there.  His reaction to this finding spiritual hope in a Marmite jar top is the same as mine: Sad.  The spiritual situation in Ystrad is on the downturn, with many congregations closing for lack of support and little interest in the Bible.  But if your Marmite smears into the form of a hippie with a shaved chin, then, "Oh, my, it's a sign God is with us!"  Very sad!
