The Jews of Jesus' day expected Elijah to come before the Messiah; indeed, some modern Jews continue to await Elijah's coming as well, as in the Cup of Elijah the Prophet in the Passover Seder. This is why the disciples ask Jesus in Matthew 17:10, 'Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?.' The disciples are then told by Jesus that Elijah came in the person of John the Baptist,

Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands." Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist. — Matt. 17:11-13

An account of John the Baptist is found in all extant manuscripts of the Jewish Antiquities (book 18, chapter 5, 2) by Flavius Josephus (37–100):[47]

Now some of the Jews thought that the destruction of Herod's army came from God, and that very justly, as a punishment of what he did against John, that was called the Baptist: for Herod slew him, who was a good man, and commanded the Jews to exercise virtue, both as to righteousness towards one another, and piety towards God, and so to come to baptism; for that the washing [with water] would be acceptable to him, if they made use of it, not in order to the putting away [or the remission] of some sins [only], but for the purification of the body; supposing still that the soul was thoroughly purified beforehand by righteousness. Now when [many] others came in crowds about him, for they were very greatly moved [or pleased] by hearing his words, Herod, who feared lest the great influence John had over the people might put it into his power and inclination to raise a rebellion, (for they seemed ready to do any thing he should advise,) thought it best, by putting him to death, to prevent any mischief he might cause, and not bring himself into difficulties, by sparing a man who might make him repent of it when it would be too late. Accordingly he was sent a prisoner, out of Herod's suspicious temper, to Macherus, the castle I before mentioned, and was there put to death. Now the Jews had an opinion that the destruction of this army was sent as a punishment upon Herod, and a mark of God's displeasure to him.[48][continued]

with other passages in Josephus relating to Christian themes concern remains over whether the passage was part of Josephus's original text or instead a later interpolation. Skeptical writer Frank Zindler argues that the passage is an interpolation by a Sabian.[49] The passage dates back to at least the early third century as it is quoted by Origen in Contra Celsum. It was also quoted by Eusebius of Caesarea in the fourth century.

According to this passage, the execution of John was blamed for a defeat Herod suffered ca. 36 CE. Divergences between the passage's presentation and the Biblical accounts of John include baptism for those whose souls have already been "purified beforehand by righteousness" is for purification of the body, not general repentance of sin (Mark 1:4[50]). Biblical scholar John Dominic Crossan differentiates between Josephus's account of John and Jesus like this: "John had a monopoly, but Jesus had a franchise." To get baptized, Crossan writes[clarification needed], you went only to John; to stop the movement one only needed to stop John (therefore his movement ended with his death). Jesus invited all to come and see how he and his companions had already accepted the Government of God, entered it and were living it. Such a communal praxis was not just for himself, but could survive without him, unlike John's movement.[51]

We know very well that Jesus was vicariously condemned in our place by shedding His blood on the Cross. But why did Jesus, God Himself who was sinless, have to bear this condemnation on the Cross? There are causes and effects in all things. That Jesus died on the Cross for our sins is very closely related to the event of His baptism, when He was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River, which was a form of the laying on of hands. The Apostle Peter said in 1 Peter 3:21 that baptism is an antitype that saves us. This then means that Jesus came by baptism and the Cross.Ephesians5:26][ Totus 3:5][ Romans 10:10]There ia an antitype namely baptism which does save us, not by works , but by the answer of a good conscience given by the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, through the Ressurection of the Meshiach in whom G-d sent to deliver the New Covenant![ Yeshua] John the Baptist appears to be a forerunner to announce the act of Baptism in the Holy Spirit; Isaiah40:3-4]Though it speaks of G-d's strength[Isaiah 40;10]The passage ends with [Isaiah 40:31]- They that wait![continued]The Meshiach is born, rejected and  returns with the remnant of His brethren[ Micah 5:2-3][John 7:42][Genesis35:19; 48:7] [1 Samuel 23:23] [ Exodus 18:25][isaiah 9:6][Psalms 90:2][ Micah4:10;4:7; 7:18], and upon His return shall stand and feed in the Majesty of the Name of the Lord His G-d.[ Micah 5:4][

So now we ask the question; Was John the Baptist Elijah? In [Isaiah 40:13], Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being His Counsellor, has taught him?[ 1 Corinthians 2:16][ 1 Corinthians 2:13] asks the question; Who knows the mind of the Lord, that he would instruct Him?Which things do we speak, not in the words of man's wisdom, but what the Holy Spirit teachs!That spiritual things are compared to spiritual! John when asked; Are you Elijah , said No I am not Elijah in flesh, but what? The voice of the one who crys in the wilderness; Prepare the way of the Lord!; So John was a voice! The voice of who? If Yeshua will come again, then will also Elijah come before His return ? I believe it was the spiritual voice of the same Holy Spirit that spoke in Elijah, not the man, but the G-d of Israell!; from Old and everlasting!If this statement is correct, then the scriptures do not conflict. Yeshua came first to establish a bridge to the spiritual Kingdom of G-d,from forgiveness of sin, then later upon the remnants return shall manifest physically, with Elijah,and Enoch the forerunners , and witnesses; not in voice , but in Flesh!, and ultimately restore our flesh from death![ Daniel 12:2-3]If this was true then the last sacrifice of Parah Adumah has also been completed! but the Temple , and sacrifices will be established once again in the future, and resumed,and Israel will attempt to usher in what G-d has already manifested!!!. I believe in Christ Because Jesus is a real person. He lived on this earth about 2,000 years ago. Not everybody believes He is the Son of God. Some say, “He was a good man, and a great Teacher, but He was not the Son of God.” This is impossible. Either He is the Son of God, or He was the biggest liar in the world. He said He was the Son of God.
