The Bielski Brothers

During the dark, bleak days of World War II as the Nazis were nearing their home town, three Russian brothers, Asael, Tuvia and Zus Bielski fled their home and, in the months following, saved the lives of 1,200 Jewish refugees - men, women and children- the largest known rescue effort of the Holocaust. The story is even more remarkable for the way in which the refugees survived, not hiding in dark cellars or attics, but safe in a forest haven that had a bakery, synagogue, public bath, and a theatre company.

My Hebrew teacher Tovah and her family were also Holocaust survivers that hid in the woods. I ask her if she new of the Bielski Brothers, She said no. They were on the Train to Auschwitz twice, but her Father was a Master Carpenter and the Nazis needed his services, they pulled him and his family off the train both times. They escaped and hid in the woods for nine months.

There is a movie that just came out on DVD called "Defiance" of the true story of these Jewish heroes.

Thank HaShem that there were people (Heroes) willing to fight and die to save Jewish lives.

NEVER AGAIN!!!

Thank you.  I will try to find the DVD.  May Israel Stand Up against the pressures of the world and not give up one ounce of Israeli soil.
