But that’s exactly what happened. She and Adam both ate and did not die. And both recognized that they were “naked” (evil). Where is the lie?

I would say our llives outside the garden are a slow living death wouldnt you? Every day is just a day closer to death, some die sooner, some die later, but we ALL DIE. So satan is a liar, the father of lies to be exact. And the garden was paradise and there was no end to the life Gd created. There was no pain. There was no shame. There was no sin. There was bliss,peace with one another and the universe and best of all an unending unconditional fellowship with Gd. For all purposes eden was heaven on earth. Until the deceiver of man wove his lie telling Eve that Gd was the liar, so typical of those who are deceived and deceiving, they tend to get it all twisted, beleive me Ive been there spirtually. And I can tell you of my own experiences that Gd gives life spiritually and satan and his minions bring death spiritually. So Adam and Eve did die, they died spiritually and their felllowship with Gd came to an end. What a horrid lie satan told. He laughed for sure over that deception. But what is so reassuring is that because of Jesus our spiritual reconnecton with Gd is reestablished and because of the sacrificial act that Jesus performed over sin and death, and only because of Him and Him alone, we can have that family reunion! When I was attacked for my testimony it was a death. I had died spiritually and no matter what I did I could not come back to Gd...beleive me I tried but I could not. And for ten long years I suffered at the merciless hands of sins swaying song. It was hell on earth. I dont know why Im alive today except by the grace of Gd almighty. It was Gd that called me home in 1998 and from that day forward it has been a healing process and a relearning and renewing of my mind, and I might add, painful and difficult, but I wouldnt live their life for one second today and whatever the cost of having this love between Gd and me renewed is worth it. Our pastor preached to consider the cost of serving Gd and I tell you with all sincerity...Jesus already paid the COST and I gladly share it with Him for the opportunity to be near Gd in spirit even for one second more!! And that decision is my best one ever, no matter the cost!

PS And best of all our Gd does not give us just a second with Him He gives us an ETERNITY. Our Gd is not the liar, satan is. The wages of sin IS DEATH but the gift of Gd is eternal life.

One of the fattest lies satan ever told is that we can be as gods.I believe that is the deception where Joseph Smith was captured and the false religion of Mormonism was birthed. There are many, many, many, false gods in this world. I dont want to be like any of them, do you? We are not to have any gods before Jehovah the Living Hebrew G*d. That includes the god of money, the god of lust, the god of drugs, the god of power, just flllintheblank.
Knowing the difference between good and evil, which is what the tree offered, when knowing good was all we had known previously, is of no value and quite a step downward, if you ask me, if we just know the difference but are incapable of protecting ourselves from evil then this knowledge is even harmful. The delusion sold in the package of godhood by satan is that we will be as powerful as Jehovah....very dangerous assumption and thought! I only know of one way to overcome evil and that is with Jehovah. When we seek Him and His guidance and protection then we know what to do in the situation and we have peace and comfort. When we try to do it alone we are frazzled, hurried, angry, confused, and distraught.
You said to focus on the good fo the lies of satan. Friend, there is no good in satan! He is cursed and unable to escape it because of what He has done to imitate the real G*d. Know I know that the Jewish elders have long sense felt that Jesus was a false prophet and I cant begin to explain Jesus and His divinity in proper terms but He is the Living Word of G*d made into flesh. G*ds word created this universe and us and all that is in it, yes even the destroyer, by His will. So I dont have a problem believing that He also willed His word into our Saviour Jesus. And not just for the Gentiles, but for the Jewish people first and foremost. Well, Im preaching again, sorry. freeoholic, you make an interesting thought, but I believe we have to take a day as a day when God says, "day". Otherwise it is like the joke where God says a penny is like a million dollars to Him and a minute is like a thousand years. So the man says, "Please give me a penny," and God answers, "Just a minute." If God says, "You will die in a day," and you have to wonder if God means one thousand years or a regular day or a second, well then it would be pretty hard to know how to believe God. Therefore, although a day TO GOD can be LIKE a thousand years, when God says "day" to us, we must understand it in our sense of day.
Adam and Eve died the day they ate, in our sense of a day. They did not die physically that day, but they did die spiritually that day, which leads us to understand that spiritual death is the real problem to overcome, not just our physical mortality. In fact, Genesis 3:22 seems to tell us that the sin did not affect the physical at all. Before sin, it was apparently necessary for Adam and Eve to eat of the tree of life on a regular basis to maintain their eternal youth. After sin, Adam and Eve would have continued to live forever physically if God had let them continue to eat of the tree. That really puts a different light on the consequences of sin.
'For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness'. 2 Thes. 2:11,12
'You shall not surely die'. Eve died. So did Adam. 120,000 people die every day. At some point everyone who is now living will die. (assuming the end does not come and we are taken up)
Satan told them 'You will be as gods'. It is a well known thing that this lie continues to influence mankind. It has entered all cultures through broad strokes in the form of psychology, the arts, religion, science, business and finance, politics, economics and mainstream entertainment. The same basic ideas about man, meaning and God which are traditionally associated with the ancient Oriental religions are showing up as root premises of most of the important trends in today's Western society. These ideas are rooted in a common set of presuppositions, which have been systematically expounded in such 'esoteric' disciplines as yoga, magic, alchemy, astrology, Kabbalah, Taoism, tantra and Zen. The proud delusion of modern philosophizing, whether scientific or spiritual, may be described as a kind of 'cosmic humanism' which ultimately denies the personal God of the Bible, asserts the autonomy, power and inherent divinity of man, and condemns as obsolete any absolute statement of moral values.
This lie is behind movements like Mormonism, Christian Science, Communism and Transcendental Meditation. It is also the root of 'self-realization' which Sigmund Freud sold to the world as science. In fact many famous people today preach this idea that we can be as gods ourselves, including a famous talk show host, a certain famous lady preacher, and various t.v. personalities who sell books about helping us realize ourselves. Much of this programming is aimed square at Christians. Sadly many Christians today do not realize that all the self-esteem building and 'new' spirituality is actually a guise for subverting the true gospel of Jesus Christ which is to deny yourself and take up your cross and follow Him.
As to 'focusing on the good'. I believe that Adam and Eve were possessing of very very good things already. They could speak directly to God. How's that for good! Being without sin? Clean, perfect, healthy, happy, disease-free? How much of today's knowledge to them was unnecessary by default? Like agriculture, medicine, biology, weather tracking, cooking, how to protect oneself from dangerous people and all the things people have had to worry about ever since. God lovingly had provided them with every thing they needed. Besides if there was something they needed to know, they could just ask God.
