Hi there, I'm new to this forum, but not necessarily new to Jews for Jesus. I'm just a little confused on some things, and need clarifying and confirmation. I was raised a christian, but I have Jewish ancestory and since a really young age I have always studied Jewish history, culture, and various other aspects. I have always considered myself an unaffiliated Christian, but observed, for the most part (as well as I could in a part Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, and Athiest family) Jewish culture. Well after telling my mother that I found myself to be a Jew for Christ, she informed me it was impossible for me to be Jewish since I was not raised (by them) as Jewish, and only true Jewish converts to the salvation of Jesus could honestly call themselves Jews for Jesus. She told me there was a group somewhere that actually were named Jews for Jesus, and so I searched and found this website a few months ago. Now, I have always had a stance for unity between those that believe in Christ and it is extremely difficult in todays world with all the different denominations to find friends who accept my choices. I find that we're all here for the same purpose (well those that believe) - Jesus. But that last thing I want, is to be part of a Faith-based culture who doesn't believe I could truly be a Jew for Jesus. I belive that all the observances of Judaism are extremely important... and that Judaism is the foundation of all Christian beliefs. So I guess my question is, is it possible to be a Jew-for-Jesus, even though I wasn't necessarily raised in a Jewish household?[align=justify]

Oh... and Sorry if this was in the wrong uhm... discussion board, I didn't know what to post this under...

Thanks,
Evan.

Hi Evan. If your mother is halachaly Jewish, so are you. Having Jewish ancestry does not make you Jewish. Whether or not you were raised a Jew is irrelevant. It all comes down as to whether your mother is Jewish per Jewish law. I personaly feel one cannot be a "Jew for
Jsus", but that is a whole different discussion...

this post and response im showing you is exactly what im talking about when i said the word jew is too encompassing and needs expalnation when it used. here evans mom is talking spiritual jew and sheitl is talking dna jew. she argues that he is not jewish unless dna is envolved. this is the error the rabbis teach the fact that no disticntions are made, leads to much confusion.

abraham wasnt a jew because he was the son of adam or noah. he was a jew because of his faith. dna is nothing. dna is nothing. dna is nothing.

one is not chosen because he is a jew...he is a jew because he is chosen. abraham proves this i think.

I have to disagree, I am not speaking of DNA here. I am speaking about the Jewish soul, which is passed down Jewish mother to Jewish child, or obtained when one goes into the mikveh as part of conversion.

Evan,

From your post it seems pretty clear that you know you have Jewish blood. Do you identify as a Jew? I know plenty of Jewish believers in Jesus who were raised in secular homes, with no practice of Judaism, yet had a good deal of Jewish identity. More important than the sense of identity as a Jew, however, is a sense of identity in Messiah. If you identify as a Jew, and believe that Jesus is the promised Messiah of Israel and your Savior, then call yourself a Jew for Jesus or a Messianic Jew or a Jewish believer in Jesus. Heck, call yourself a penguin if you want to Smile Just remember that it's God who made you Jewish -- not rabbinic law -- and it's Jesus who gives you salvation.

This website is a good place to start as far as exploring what it means to be Jewish and believe in Jesus. You have my prayers that you find what you are looking for while you're here.

??? sorry, excuse me. i may be out of school on this...i was born a heathen and shortly after, i was dropped on my head. we heathens believe that if you wearing a yarmaka, you are a jew no matter if mom was mikvah'ed or not.

you have to be speaking dna because ethnically, jews are the only ones performing the mikvah...right? and passing 'jewish to jewish' is what ethnicity is right?

i dont think that sarah underwent the ritual and this would mean that all her children are not jewish?

and so you say i misunderstood your post but, my point is still valid right? evans mom was not speaking about mikvah mommies? and so you had one idea of what jewishness is and she had another.

this is the issue im raised. rabbic rules was never my issue. i was trying to establish points of reference. dialogue without a point of reference is useless. it only adds to confusion and PREVENTS the true knowledge.

maybe it my fault that you didnt address my issue because i dont communicate good enuf.

i see that spirits pass from generation to generation the same like dna. and abrahams spirit is the 'jewishness' that scripture is addressing. judaists are thinking dna jewish is what the scriptures are talking about when god says "my people". while these are into the flesh and the dna aspect , i know that when god says that abrahams descendant will be as numerous as the sands and the stars, is talking about souls which have inherited his spirit, not his dna. because some take meaning of the word 'jew' in the dna sense, they are 'deadended' in their assent to true knowledge, and ignorance and judaism overtake them. ethnic prejudice sets in as well. all because of the lack of understanding what makes a jew jewish. rabbi and his religion will make sense if you misunderstand what the scripture are refering to when it says 'jews'. he perpetuates a lie and he perpetuates racism and self segregation. he has isolated the 'jewish soul' and tells you not to play with the gentiles to keep you isolated. (im not say that rabbi is a conspirator. he may be victim like the rest, or he may just have eves spirit guide.)

in response, im saying what jesus taught. even if mom was mikvah'ed, you are not a child of abraham (scriptural jew) if you do not follow in that path of abrahams teaching. jesus and the prophets saw abrahams children as righteous and these are the covenant children. jesus told the principle hypocrites who claimed jewishness thru abraham and that stood on gods holy mountain calling fire down from heaven on the people, children of satan.

the children of the faith but not neccessarily children of the blood may possess the spirit of abraham. these then are spiritual descendants.

god is interested in your soul, your spirit. he not come to save your dna or anybodys dna. it will rot in the earth. im pretty sure about this.

To expand further on this post, Evan, I can tell you that I'm a goy; but I know of three Jews who aren't part of a Messianic Jewish denomination, but are considered (by self and others) Messianic Jews. One is Southern Baptist author Jordan Rubin (The Maker's Diet) and two Roman Catholic boys who were born to a non-Messianic Jewish mother and a gentile Roman Catholic dad.

Sigh....we will never agree, so I suggest we stop beating a dead horse.
Judaism and Jews define who they accept as Jews...if you choose to
believe otherwise, that is your perogative. Just don't expect Jews to
agree with you.
Why do you call your self a heathen?
I am having trouble understanding parts of your post, no doubt due
to my own fault....
