Elijah did come back....John the Baptist

I don't know him personally, but I expect to meet him someday. Jesus dealt with the issue of Elijah's appearance in Matthew 17:10-13. Elijah in his full personage will come before Jesus comes in his full "personage", so to speak, which means to fully fulfill all prophecies, and Christians who are knowledgeable about prophecy are aware of that.

Jhn 1:21
And they asked him, (John the Baptist), What then?
Art thou Elias?
And he saith, I am not.
Art thou that prophet?
And he answered, No.

Luke 1:17 "And he (John the Baptist) shall go before Him, in the spirit and power of Elias ..."
John the Baptist was not Elias, but he went in the spirit of Elias; as I understand it, he participated in the spiritual coming and role of Elias for the first coming of the Messiah, which was primarily spiritual in focus also. Elijah was there with John the Baptist in spirit, and he appears in Matthew 17:3, so that is why Jesus said that Elijah had already come, a requirement for the Messiah's coming. What they did to John the Baptist, they did in representative form to Elijah. For the full coming of the Messiah, which will fulfill all of the physical aspects of Messiah's work, Elijah will come physically.

Could he be one of the two prophets that to come during the tribulation preaching Jesus in Jerusalem? I understand that these two men will perform miracles and wonders while preaching at the Wailing Wall and will be killed only to rise again in 3 days. Is Elijah one of these two men? If so who is the other?

I believe Elijah holds many key factors into End of Age prophesy, as it seems that He helps build the Temple, after hearing many debates on who will build the temple I believe it to be Elijah! Also Elijah and Enoch were two men that escaped death, and were lifted into Heaven [Genesis5:23-24, hebrews 11:5][ 2 Kings 2]. Malachi 4:5 predicted Elijahs appearance on earth in future tense. The term "dreadful day" relates to the 42 months of the tribulation[Matthew 24:21] Elijah comes to" restore the hearts of the fathers to the children[Malachi 4:6] Yeshua even predicted Elijah would come first and restore all things.[ Matthew 17:11] therefore Elijah will re-appear at the ;End of days, and begin a restoration process that includes revealing to each Jewish man the Tribe they come from. Elijah and Enoch I believe are the two witnesses found in the Apocalypse [ Revelation 11:3-4], and will prophesy for 42 months in Jerusalem. They will be given also great power over thier enemies; The two olive trees and two lampstands identified by [Zechariah 4:11-14] centuries before John's vision. Both John and Zechariah ryhmne in imagery; 2 witnesses, 2 olive trees, two[R & L] lampstands. These witnesses will witness for 42 months to the Jews, and then are killed by the antichrist.[Revelation 11:7]. Elijah is welcomed in Passover Seder , and the youngest boy is sent to the front door to welcome him, as a cup is set on the table that when he drinks he announces the Mashiachs return! John the Baptist announced Yeshua to fulfill the prophesy of [Esaias;40:3], and the Holy Spirit, but I believe it will be Elijah who announces G-d's turning , and Yeshua; Lion of Judahs return.[continued]

[continued] The two witnesses I believe are Elijah and Enoch for these reasons; Both men never died, both were taken to heaven, both were prophets, both were alive when Zechariah saw his vision, Enoch gave the 1rst, prophesy of Yeshua's return, and the judgement to come[Jude 14-15], Both men must die to fulfill Hebrews 9:27, and Elijah is to return before the terrible day of the Lord[Malachi 4:5], Enoch was a gentile, Elijah a Jew, and Elijah will make judgements against his enemies.Even Muslims believe in the last day's and G-d's judgement[ They believe The Mahdi and Yeshua will fight the antichrist- Warped!][and decieving] [ Revelation11:5-6]. Since Passover is the first of seven Feasts on Israel's calendar, any future Jewish Temple would be dedicated at Passover. The Temples constuction is predicted to take 42 months to complete. If this is correct then the building would commence in the fall and, 42 months later, be dedicated at Passover. I believe only by the supernatural Power of G-d could such a feat be possible considering the fact of Muslim opposition to the Jewish Temple; it would take someone like Elijah who will exercise G-d's judgement, and Miracles to make this happen. After the Temple is built, then comes the antichrist] and kills the 2 witnesses, and the world celebrates this[ At least the Islamic world][Revelation11:7-10]As this is done when someone blasphemes Islams name, and thier bodies left in the streets, and the body is humiliated. This is being done now in various Islamic Nations today, but that would be another story pertaining to my Thread; End of the world; In; What do you want to talk about. Shalom

The problems with the ancient (perhaps archaic) interpretations are compounded by traditional Old Testament understanding that require Elijah to preceed the messiah... the Suffering Messiah...
... and the Eucharist.
Jews know that Elijah's Cup was on the Seder table.
If Jesus ignored it, that would be impossible.
If Jesus used it, that would be Eliajah, returned.

if your saying jesus is Elijah I do not see that anywhere in scripture.
in fact Elijah might still be coming back physical. The Book of revelation talks about two prophets of the OT coming back to bring God judgement.
