ANNE SAYS:
"A digression: As a woman, it always bothered me that God spoke to Abraham but never Sarah. She was chosen as well,..."

The Covenant was established with Abraham; and G-D said, "Sarah
thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed, and thou shalt call his name
Isaac (Laughter): and I will establish my Covenant with him for an
everlasting Covenant, and with his seed after him."
Because Ishmael was also Abraham's seed, G-D heard him and
blessed him and would make him a great nation, but the Covenant
He would establish with Isaac.
Sarah caused all the trouble in the first place, not believing G-D,
that a 90 year woman (past the ways of a woman), could bear a
son, so she laughed. Then she went on to fulfill the prophecy in her
own way by letting her husband, Abraham, sleep with her servant,
Hagar. [Some times we think we know better than G-D.]
Then Abraham wanted Ishmael to live before G-D.
Then discontent rose between Hagar and Sarah.
Trouble, trouble, trouble.
Where is the seed of Abraham today? Judah kept her identity,
but the 10 Tribes of Israel got lost in the world.
Jesus said that He came only for the lost tribes; that He would
not give the children's bread to the dogs.
But the woman of faith said that even the dogs eat the crumbs
from their Master's table.
Jesus recognized her great faith and granted her wish.
So it is the children of faith who become the seed of Abraham,
not just those by blood. The children of faith will be gathered
by the Gospel. Abraham believed G-D and it was accounted to
him as righteousness.
SHALOM!

Abraham laughed as well, though; but did let Sarah influence him too much.
