Hello Ray,

I have been following your posts very closely.   In your post above you stated I should follow the “Levites” instead of the “erronius” kings lists.   There are several reasons I cannot accept this reasoning.

Quote:
wstruse, you are getting more accurate, you have Antiochus IV at
BC 163, when it is actually AM 3970 (BC 82), you are only 81 years
in error instead of the usual 112 years.
I suggest you use the Bible Chronology written by Levites instead of
erronius kings lists. Secular chronologies destroy the Bibical prophecies.

1. The “Levites” to who you refer reject the messiah.   While this does not automatically disqualify their work it does raise serious questions as their objectivity.   The apostle Paul teaches that those of his people who rejected the Messiah are in a state of semi-blindness until the “times of the Gentiles” are fulfilled.
2. Every one of the lengths of reigns of the secular rules of Babylon, Persia, and Assyria that you presented are based on secular chronologies.   The only difference is the chronology as you have presented has been arranged by Rabbinic scholars to meet their view of history.
3. You have gone to great lengths and obvious great effort to present this chronology but as of yet you have not provided any point of synchronization with the historical record.
4. The two pages of historical eclipse records that I posted were written at the time of the events described.  Many clearly designate the Selucian Year as well as the eclipse.   These eclipse records can be easily verified today.  A series of these eclipse records proves the chronology without any possible alternative.  You could argue 1 or 2 or possibly 3 records but you cannot argue with any credibility a series of dozens of records spanning the years from Babylon to the time of the Messiah.
5. Your final claim that the secular chronologies “destroy the Biblical prophecies” is purely subjective.   To whose interpretations of the prophecies are your referencing?   There are multiple interpretations of the prophecies of the Scripture.  What I or you believe is not nearly as important as what YHWH intended.
Here is a balanced perspective on the Rabbinic chronology from the Jewish Encyclopedia.

2. Scientific Data:
All chronological accuracy depends upon the fulfilment of two conditions. To ascertain or verify the date of any event there must be a fixed point of departure, from which or to which the event in question is to be reckoned. Again, the data from which the time of the event is inferred must be adjusted to a connected system of time-reckoning reliable throughout. In other words, some ancient authority, referring to an established scheme or system, must have made a notation of the event itself or of something synchronous with it.

—Post-Biblical:
The chronological system of the Jews was derived, like most of their science, from the Greeks. They used the "minyan sheṭarot" (era of contracts, really the Seleucidan era, dating from 312 B.C.) till the Middle Ages, when the method of reckoning from the creation of the world was introduced—probably by the later geonim, as it was employed by R. Sherira (987 C.E.). This era begins with the year corresponding to 3760 B.C. Maimonides on occasions used no less than three eras, as in the Mishneh Torah (Shemiṭṭah, x. 4): "In the year 1107 of the destruction of the Temple, 1487 of the Seleucidan era, 4936 of the Creation." For a short time the era of the Hasmoneans, dating from the autumn of 143 B.C. (see I Macc. xiii. 41-42), was in use. See Era.

The dates recorded according to these various eras are based in Jewish chronology on certain estimated intervals between important events in post-Biblical Jewish history. These intervals are given in 'Ab. Zarah 9a, 10a (probably derived from Seder 'Olam Rabbah, xxix.), which counts 34 years from the Second Temple to Alexander; 180 for the Greek empire; 103 from the beginning of the Hasmonean dynasty under John Hyrcanus (135 B.C.) to Herod; 103 from Herod to the destruction of the Temple; making in all 420 years. According to this reckoning, the era of contracts is placed six years after that of Alexander, the interval between whose appearance in Palestine and the destruction of the Second Temple is much less than in reality. The date of the accession of Herod is placed two years too late; and that of the destruction of the Temple is fixed at 68, which is, of course, two years too early. Loeb ("Revue Etudes Juives," xix. 202-205) has ingeniously explained these discrepancies as due to a desire on the part of R. Jose, the author of the Seder 'Olam Rabbah, to make them agree with the prediction of Dan. ix. 24 et seq., that seventy weeks (of years), or 490 years, would elapse between the Return fromthe Exile and the destruction of the Second Temple. As the Exile was assumed to last seventy years, in accordance with Jeremiah, this left 420 years from the Return (537 B.C.) to the destruction of the Temple (70 C.E.), a discrepancy of 187 years. This is got rid of in part by making the Persian domination last 34 instead of 204 years (537-333 B.C.). This was done in order to make the interval between the Exodus and the era of contracts exactly 1,000 years.

I believe this version of the chronology is accurate up to Terah.  In the table above the birth of Abram takes place in the year AM 1948.  This is based on the belief that Abraham was born in the 70th year of Terah.  Here is the Scripture upon which this calculation is based.

Genesis 11:26  26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

Note this verse states that Terah had lived 70 years and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.   This is a general statement not a precise chronology.   This is proven in a couple of different ways.  1st though, the precedence for this “general” statement was set in a similar way concerning the sons of Noah.

Genesis 5:32  32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Here it gives a general statement of chronology.  It is only later that we learn that Shem was 100 years old when Arphaxad was born, which was 2 years after the flood.  This proves Shem was not born on Noah’s 500th birthday.   In the same way we find later in the scriptural record Abraham was not born on Terah’s 70th birthday.

Genesis 11:10  10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

In Genesis 12 it states that Abram was 75 years old when he departed Haran.  In Acts 7:2-4 it states Abraham departed Haran at the death of Terah.   Genesis 12:1 states Terah died in Haran at 205 years old.  This places the birth of Abraham 75 year earlier in 2008 AM and his death in 2183 AM.     This shows the Rabbinic chronology is in error by 61 years.

Genesis 11:32 - 12:1  32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

Genesis 12:1-4   Now YHWH  had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:  2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:  3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.  4 So Abram departed, as YWHH had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

Acts 7:2-4   2 And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,  3 And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.  4 Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.

___________________________________________________________
The sons of Noah who came out of the Ark were Shem Ham and Japheth. Ham was the father of Canaan. These were the 3 sons
of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the earth.
[GENESIS 9: 18-19]

When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest
son had done to him, he said, “Cursed be Canaan!”
[GENESIS 9: 24]

Sons were also born to Shem, whose older brother was Japheth …
[GENESIS 10: 21]

So we have their order of birth; first born Japheth AM 1556 (BC 2496).
The 2nd born Shem AM 1558 (BC 2494), as you say being 100 years old at the time of
birth of Arphaxad, AM 1658 (BC 2394), which was 2 years after the Flood. [AM 1656
(BC 2396) + 2 = AM 1658].
[GENESIS 11: 10]
The 3rd born son then was Ham.

Now Shem living 602 years or 600 years has no effect on the chronology.

Now Terah lived 70 years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
AM 1878 +70 years = AM 1948 (BC 2104).
[GENESIS 11: 26]
Terah lived to age 205 and died in Haran. AM 1878 (BC 2174) + 205 years = AM 2083
(BC 1969).
[GENESIS 11: 32]
Haran died while his father Terah was still alive, in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
_____________________________________________________________
“In Genesis 12 it states that Abram was 75 years old when he departed Haran. [In Acts 7:2-4 it states Abraham departed Haran at the death of Terah.] * Genesis 12:1 states Terah died in Haran at 205 years old.  This places the birth of Abraham 75 year earlier in 2008 AM and his death in 2183 AM.     This shows the Rabbinic chronology is in error by 61 years. “
__Wstruse_____________________________________________________________________
Noah (950 years) AM 1056 - AM 2006 (BC 2996 – BC 2046)
Abram (175 years) AM 1948 – AM 2123 (BC 2104) – (BC 1929).
Abram AM 1948 + 75 years - AM 2023 (BC 2029).

When Father Noah died AM 2006 (BC 2046), the 1st of the Patriarchs, Abram was 58 years
old. It was 17 years later that he departed from Haran.
His immediate father Terah* did not die until AM 2083 (BC 1969), which was 60 years later.
So it was not after the death of Terah but after the death of Noah when he departed.

“Look to Abraham your Father, and to Sarah who bore you;
For I called him alone,
And blessed and increased him.”

Hello Ray,

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your post.  I have been very busy the last several weeks.

In your last post to me you proposed that Abraham left Haran at the death of Noah.   This is not supported in anyway by a contextual reading of the text.    “Father” Noah is not implied or indicated in any way.  In fact if you carefully look at the other “fathers” of Abraham several of them died about the same time as Noah.    Nahor, Peleg and Reu all died about this time.  According to your chronology Reu’s death was closer to the departure date of Abram than the death of Noah.  So why don’t you use Reu as the “father” of Abram.

Another problem I have with this theory is that it requires Abram to wait 15 years after YHWH’s command before He actually obeyed and left Haran.  Gen 11:32 ends with the death of Terah and the next verse begins with the YHWH’s command for Abram to leave Haran.  Context leaves no other option but that the “father” being spoken about in Genesis and Acts is Haran not Noah, Reu, Peleg or Nahor.

The type of liberalities the Rabbinic chronology takes with the Scripture removes any foundation of credibility.  It requires that we trust in Rabbinic tradition over the written words of YHWH.

Warm Regards,
William Struse
