Greetings,
I am new on this forum and just wanted to know how a Jewish person would understand the passages below. I am curious because I have a feeling I am being taught incorrectly in this. I have been told the following:
1. Marriage is for life and divorce does not dissolve the marital contract
2. Remarriage is "living" in adultery (because you are still married to your first spouse even if you have gotten divorced)
3. Divorce is not allowed under any circumstances, no matter what
4. Those who divorce or who have been divorced are hard-hearted and that is why there is divorce
5. The teaching of Deuteronomy is from Moses but not of God
6. God does not recognize second marriages as anything other than adulterous illicit relationships.
7. Those who stay in their second marriages will be eternally condemned.
My concern is because some are saying if a couple marry, divorce and then marry others, they are to divorce their 2nd spouse and remarry their former spouse. This would be repentance since they are committing adultery through their second marriage.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The scriptural references are:
Deuteronomy 24:1-4
Matthew 5:32
Matthew 19:1-9
Romans 7:2-3
1 Corinthians 7:39
