On 6 December 2006, it was announced that Vatican archaeologists had discovered, beneath the altar, a sarcophagus that may perhaps contain the remains of the Apostle. A press conference was held on 11 December 2006 gave more details of the work of excavation, which lasted from 2002 to 22 September 2006, and which was begun after pilgrims to the basilica during the Jubilee year of 2000 expressed disappointment that the Apostle's tomb could not be visited or touched. A decision is pending on whether to examine the inside of the sarcophagus to see if it contains human remains. In fact, the sarcophagus has not yet been extracted from its position, so that only one of its two narrow sides is visible.

A curved line of bricks indicating the outline of the apse of the Constantinian basilica was discovered immediatedly to the west of the sarcophagus, showing that the original basilica had its entrance to the east, like Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. The larger 386 basilica that replaced it had the Via Ostiense (the road to Ostia) to the east and so was extended westward, towards the river Tiber, changing the orientation diametrically.

copied stuff... the apostles built a memorial over pauls grave and later they built it up. now they think they got pauls sarcophagus after they dug under the alter.

This is a very Un-Jewish practice!  Bodies and body parts do not belong inside places of worship.  They are supposed to be buried in cemeteries, preferably beyond the town limits.  Because borders have expanded so much in recent years, the Jewish cemeteries are now frequently within the limits of a town or city.  However, they are separated from houses of worship, residences, and places of business and entertainment.

Shlomo,
We who are Protestant Catholic (meaning not Roman Catholic) Christians (Catholic meaning "universal") agree that it's un-Jewish and pro-pagan to display bodies and body parts in the manner that the Vatican has chosen to.

is it possable People did not know it was there before they set up their church.
Quote.Posted by david .now they think they got pauls sarcophagus after they dug under the alter.

The only apostle’s death the Bible records is James.

2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. Acts 12.

More speculation and tradition by the RCC .They get more tourists that way ,and more revenue,so they can wear bigger and brighter robes.
We do not even know how Paul died, for the word of God is silent, unless you enter the vaults of the RCC,which have a plethora of tradition and sperculation, overflowing at the seams as it were.

helidoni.

ok. so its unjewish. jewish is not a goal for salvation. being jewish wont save u. sorry to say excuse my anti jewishness. the truth sometimes hurts. not all jews are saved. so what is the point to seek jewishness except to please the rabbi? the jews have a lot to feel proud but pride is one of the seven deadlies. building up on ones jewishness is like a spiritually graven image and shouldnt be a thing to worship like it more respectable than messiah that u can say catholics are not right because they werent like jewish. it may surprise u to know that the early believers and the early church, did all that it could to distance itself from the old mountain. god made everything new. paul himself said to the new people, "if u are eating vegetarian, u have poor faith."

people who believed in jesus were expected to walk away from the whole toral shebang. no man can serve two masters. and no man can stand with one foot on god holy mountain and the other foot on abomination mountain.

thats right, i said that Rjudaism is an abomination.

Anything is possible!  However, it does appear to be a custom among many Christian denominations to put churches over crypts (or crypts under churches), and also to venerate body parts!

true I dont agree on showing the dead around like that.  I would not like that I would just want to be buried and no one digging me up and placing me somewhere I dont want to be
Paul's writings or testament are a picture of his life before and after his
meeting the Lord. Luke by the Holy Spirit wrote the Acts including Paul's efforts for Christ. The beginning christian may find a closer kinship to Paul's testament than even the Lord's. Why would I say that?.... on the surface, I would say we as mere humans long for a way to holiness, as the Lord commanded. An acceptance of the cross, the forgiveness of sin, and the accompanying process of sanctification (regeneration of the Holy Ghost) creates a desire
to be true to the Saviour.
Paul in all His humaness showed His quest to  apprehend that which he had been apprehended by, while being led captive in his captivity.

Paul had been bold enough to say, My gospel, as  he knew Christ's gospel. The abundance of revelation he recieved was meaningful and significant insomuch that he recieved it directly from the Lord.
Wow! what boldness, what zealousness, what love! Even in his prayers He prayed that people everywhere would know what is the hope of their calling, that humanities eyes be opened to the understanding of G-d's great great love in Christ.

Is Paul the Solomon of the New Testament?

some u guys so smart and proud u can proclaim rightness and u dont even judge with equity. impulsive remarks.

what about the resuurection? does it figure in anywhere? the church banned creamation as they were a bit more superstitiious then they are today. these people protected the bodies of the dead. enemies dig them up and creamate them. the same they had to post guards on jesus body.

when the christians were hiding from the persecution, a lot of them died and were buried in secret graves. that is catacombs is. they didnt want rome to burn them. some got hid under churches.

catacombs is copied by the catholics from the jews who copied from palestinians. the christians then were considered a sect of jews by mainstream judaism and if a jew christian died, they were buried in the jewish catacombs and not the christian catacombs. the rabbi, who sits in the office of satan, separates Cjudaism and Rjudaism. Mjudaism are those called by faith in god. now that his only son is come and is one with his father, we re called to faith in the father and the son and this is a jew filled to completion.

now u are sport ur own faith when u say Cjudaists dig them up and show them off. u know this isnt true. the exact opposite is true. they hid the bodies. and u have told the whole world yet another reason to avoid christians, THE WHOLE WORLD!
