This is something I have always wondered about.
Having regard to the long Biblical Jewish history of Israel having Kings from the time of King Saul, why did present-day Israel opt for the non-Biblical Rule of Democracy rather than the more Bible rule of Kingship.
Please understand I am not knocking Israel’s democracy - I support it and would be prepared to fight for it. I'm just curious why not a King of Israel according to the Jewish Old Testament?
