In Judaism, there is a set scripture passage which is read in synagogue each week. This is called a portion or parsha. Usually, the Bar Mitzvah reads the regular portion for that week. Some synagogues let the Bar Mitzvah boy choose scripture which is meaningful to them or the Rabbi/Hebrew teacher will choose scripture which they think will be meaningful to them but usually it's the standard portion for that week.
