Let me ad though, Andrea suggested that this bible is a paraphrase. She is welcome to her comments as debate is healthy. While there is some sort of truth to that I pointed out that they are merely a fresh interpretation. One of the guys on the Board is Darrell Bock. Daniel Wallace, the worlds foremost manuscript dude has a big hand in this translation too. Those who say this is a paraphrase are only using their own books as a yardstick - so of course it may appear as a paraphrase. I have been investigating this translation problem for ages now and can say that this is the best translation I have yet come across. They are honest too. Look at Isaiah 7.14 - they use 'young woman' instead of 'virgin' - which is a correct rendering. They do use 'virgin' in Matthew 1.23 - which is correct.
I invite you to check out Daniel Wallace's articles before you comment:

Mark,
ÊÊ I don't like it.ÊÊMuch prefer the Interlinear literal, and the New King James.ÊÊWhat things I have to say about it, is best kept to this.ÊÊIf you want a new bible to look at, buy the Expositor's Study Bible from Jimmy Swaggart at www.jsm.org/ÊÊoffer 1640 @ $80.ÊÊAlthough I disagree with the dates of some of the texts, the commentary notes that accompany the Scriptures, is well worth the price and would be an excellent aid to any Bible Study or Biblical Discussion group.ÊÊIt is also a good self help, in which the new and older believer learns more Bible.ÊÊIf you want a good Torah Commentary and Torah, then the Sapirstein Edition would be ideal for you (ca. $125 @ www.jewishsource.com).ÊÊEach are excellent aides to the beginning student and scholar alike.ÊÊFor those with not a lot of money, the CBD (Christian Book Distributors) have a good Hebrew / Greek / English Interlinear for about $40.ÊÊI recommend the AMG Publishers Complete Word Study series of Old and New Testament Bibles and Dictionaries, as well as the classic Theological Wordbook by Harris, Waltke, and Archer.ÊÊAt any rate, the word "humankind" and certain "political correctness" phraseology?ÊÊYeech.ÊÊThanks anyway for the look.ÊÊ

I like the ESV (English Standard Version) it is word for word and is recommended by Joni Eareckson Tada.

Dwain, there is much problems with many of the English translations. Even the JPS is corrupt. The Jewish scribes altered Zech 12.10 because they could not believe that God could be pierced.
Truly, have you read any of Daniel Wallace's articles? There is no point in you even discussing this thing until you read his work. He is the worlds top manuscript guy and he will show you where most bibles have got it wrong.

Brian, here is a test for your bible: What does it read in Genesis 31.53? The oldest witness manuscripts use a lower-case 'g' for 'and the god of Nahor, the gods of their father...'
Later corrupted translations use upper-case G for all, which is totally inacurate.
This NET bible has corrected almost all mistakes as the editors have had access to more recent manuscripts.

No probs, Brian. I didn't think you were too coarse. I enjoy discussion and don't get uptight if I can ever help it.

Isn't Jimmy Swaggart a bit questionable, though? Or was it another preacher that had an affair with a prostitute? I heard that it was Pastor Swaggart, but who knows? At least Pastor Swaggart did repent.
