Full Version: Who is a Jew?

The Orthodox/Conservatives say it's someone with an unbroken matrilineal Jewish line.

The Reform/Liberals say it's someone with at least one Jewish parent, father or mother, who was raised Jewish.

What's JFJ's view on the issue?

Just an clarification on this....aomeone who was raised Jewish to
the exclusion of any other belief.
In otherwords, a child who had a Muslim mom and a
Jewish dad would not be considered a Jew if he
were raised in both faiths...

was King Ahab a Jew since he was brought up in the Jewish faith and in the faith of Balaam so that would make him according to you the first Gentile King of Israel
I know. That's what I meant, eg. someone with a Jewish dad who's had a bris, went to a Jewish school etc. and had no affiliation with his gentile mother's religion.
This is a good article. Worth reading.

I was clarifying the Reform position, not my own.
I don't accept their definition of who a Jew is....

I did a little checking and found in Romans 9 to 11 everything about who a Jew is...the short version...whoever God Himself decides is a Jew.
Being born of two Jewish parents is no guarantee..Jacob and Esau were both born of Jewish parents yet only Jacob was a Jew chosen by God.

Some say I come from Abraham..so did Ishmael...his seed isn't Jewish.

Gentiles can choose to serve God or not however a Jew is chosen by God and just because Mom and Dad were born into the Jewish Nation doesn't make them Jewish.

Whether one parent is jewish or both its God who chose Abraham not Abraham who chose God.

I'll post the Scriptures in a later post
The Prophets foretell the "Lost Ten Tribes of Israel" (Joseph) will again be revealed before the whole world, and the Jews will embrace the British-Israelites as brethren. Joes and Jews are destined to have a historic family reunion and it's already begun!

I'll start by saying, I can't speak for Jews for Jesus but I can offer my own opinion.

Personally, I tend to side with a Jew being a person who's mother is Jewish. Or a Jew is a person who has converted to Judaism, and if male been ritually circumcised.

But when I speak to people about the Messiahship of Jesus, most Jewish people in the U.S. identify themselves as Reform so a person is considered Jewish based on the Reform definition. If Reform Judaism considers them Jewish that means they were raised Jewish, practiced Reform Judaism, faced the prejudice which comes with being Jewish, identify themselves as Jewish, and believe themselves to be wholly Jewish. So I accept them as Jewish. It would seem rather silly to me to argue with them about their Jewishness. I am not a representative of Conservative or Orthodox Judaism and it is not up to me to reject their Jewishness and deny their identity based on the religious beliefs of Conservative or Orthodox Judaism.
