Why Jesus was not the Jewish messiah

I am the author of a new book called, "Twenty-Six Reasons Why Jews Don't Believe In Jesus" which is available at www.26reasons.com.

My "Reason 8" directly explains why Jesus did not qualify as the Jewish messiah:

JESUS FAILED TO FULFILL ANY OF SIX AUTHENTIC JEWISH MESSIANIC CRITERIA

The word “messiah” means anointed with oil. All kings, high priests, and prophets in the Jewish Bible are described as “messiahs” because they were all anointed with oil into God’s service. Many Jewish prophets foretold that a particular messiah, the Messiah ben David, would appear and fulfill six major prophecies that will lead the world into a special Messianic Era. These messianic criteria are and have always been universally accepted by the Jewish People. Jesus did not qualify as the Jewish Messiah ben David for the simple reason that he did not fulfill any of these criteria. The Messiah ben David must:

1. have the correct genealogy by being descended from King David and King Solomon,
2. be anointed King of Israel,
3. return the Jewish People to Israel,
4. rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem,
5. bring peace to the world and end all war,
6. bring knowledge of God to the world.

THE BIBLE’S MESSIANIC CRITERIA ARE EMPIRICALLY VERIFIABLE: “Faith” is irrelevant to the Jewish concept of the Messiah ben David, because an individual either fulfills these prophetic criteria or he doesn’t. Christianity requires faith that Jesus is their “messiah” precisely because he didn’t fulfill any of the Jewish messianic criteria. Christianity’s concept of faith in Jesus is therefore a substitute for this defect. It is important to note that the fulfillment of each of the six Jewish messianic criteria is empirically verifiable and therefore no faith is required to determine the identity of the Jewish Messiah ben David. For example, the entire world will be able to observe that the Temple has been rebuilt, the Jews have returned to Israel, the entire world believes in God, and the world is at peace. Virtually none of the Christian messianic “proofs” are empirically verifiable.

THE FIRST MESSIANIC CRITERIA IS GENEALOGY: Of the six primary Jewish messianic criteria, the only one that the Christian Bible claimed for Jesus was genealogy. The Messiah ben David must be Jewish, from the Tribe of Judah, from the seed of King David, and from the seed of King Solomon. The flawed and contradictory genealogies in Luke and Matthew are extremely problematic since genealogy is the only authentic messianic criteria that the Christian Bible claims that Jesus fulfilled. Jesus is eliminated from messianic consideration because of the myriad of errors and problems in both Matthew and Luke’s genealogies.

THE SECOND MESSIANIC CRITERIA IS THAT HE WILL BE ANOINTED KING OF ISRAEL. The term “messiah” means anointed with oil and in a messianic context refers to an anointed king. According to Jewish prophecy the Messiah ben David must descend from David who was a King of Israel. Therefore, David’s messianic descendant must also be an anointed king of Israel. It is necessary that a Jewish prophet (or a High Priest) anoint Jewish kings (with oil) because prophets are messengers of God and authenticate their right to kingship. For example, the prophet Samuel anointed King Saul with oil, and Samuel also anointed King David with oil.

This is one of the reasons the prophet Malachi prophesized that the prophet Elijah would return prior to the coming of the Messiah ben David. A prophet (Elijah) must anoint David’s messianic descendent king of Israel. Accordingly, in the Christian Bible Matthew claimed that John the Baptist was “Elijah the prophet.” Problematically, the Gospel of John (contradicting Matthew) reported that John the Baptist said he was not Elijah the prophet, creating yet another problem for Jesus.
According to the Gospel of John, when the Roman Procurator Pilate asked Jesus if he was “king of the Jews,” Jesus answered “yes.” In addition, the Gospels report that a woman anointed Jesus’ head with oil, and a woman anointed Jesus’ feet with oil. Jesus was also anointed with oil for his burial. Interestingly, since Jesus claimed to be king of an “otherworldly kingdom,” this anointing with burial oil may have been intended by the Gospel writer to initiate his rule into a “spiritual” kingdom.” However, although Jesus may have claimed to be “king of Israel” and nameless women may have anointed him with oil, these women were not prophets and there is no indication in the Gospels that Jesus was ever anointed king of Israel. (2 Samuel 7:12-16, 1 Chronicles 17:11-12)

THE THIRD MESSIANIC CRITERIA IS THAT HE WILL BRING THE JEWISH PEOPLE BACK TO ISRAEL. Not only did Jesus fail to bring the Jewish People back to Israel, the Jews were expelled from Israel shortly after Jesus lived. This is the opposite of what this messianic prophecy requires. (Isaiah 11:12, Isaiah 27:12-13, Jeremiah 33:7)

THE FOURTH MESSIANIC CRITERIA IS THAT HE WILL REBUILD THE TEMPLE IN JERUSALEM. Obviously, Jesus could not have fulfilled the messianic prophecy to rebuild the Temple since it was not destroyed during his lifetime. This (third) Temple must be built on the Temple Mount as specifically described by the prophet Ezekiel. John’s Gospel reported that Jesus said that the Temple would be destroyed and he would re-rebuild it. Matthew’s Gospel reported that Jesus was accused of threatening to destroy the Temple. Perhaps the authors of these Gospels realized that Jesus had not fulfilled this messianic criteria and these comments were intended to address this problem.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Jewish Messiah ben David must build the third Temple. (Ezekiel 37:26-28, Micah 4:1, Isaiah 2: 2,3)

THE FIFTH MESSIANIC CRITERIA IS THAT HE WILL BRING PEACE TO THE WORLD AND END ALL WAR. Jesus brought no peace to the world. Israel was destroyed in two wars with Rome shortly after Jesus lived. The last 2000 years have been the most violent in human history and the Church that was founded in Jesus’ name caused many of these wars. Since its re-establishment in 1948, Israel has not been safe from her enemies.
(Ezekiel 37:26, Micah 4:3, Isaiah 2:4)

THE SIXTH MESSIANIC CRITERIA IS THAT HE WILL BRING KNOWLEDGE OF GOD TO THE WORLD. Jesus did not bring knowledge of the Jewish God to the world. The Christian Bible directly contradicts the Jewish definition of God and directly contradicts all fundamental Jewish teachings about God. Most of the world still does not know God. Ironically, whenever a Christian missionary proselytizes a non-believer he proves that the Messiah ben David has not yet come. His act of proselytizing is a graphic demonstration that the world is not yet filled with knowledge of God. (Isaiah 11:9, Isaiah 40:5, Zephaniah 3:9,
Jeremiah 31:33)

CONCLUSION: Jesus failed to bring knowledge of God to the world and is therefore eliminated from messianic consideration. The Messiah ben David by definition is the man who fulfills the six authentic messianic criteria discussed above. The Christian idea of “belief or faith” in this messiah or in his identity is never mentioned in the Jewish Bible because it is irrelevant. In Jewish terms, failure to fulfill even one of the messianic criteria is conclusive proof that individual is not the Messiah ben David. Therefore, when Jesus died without fulfilling any of the six messianic criteria, this was conclusive proof that he was not the Messiah ben David.

THERE IS NO “SECOND COMING” CONCEPT IN THE JEWISH BIBLE: Missionaries respond with their “second coming” theory, which asserts that Jesus will accomplish everything when he comes “next time.” There are two major problems with this Christian answer. First, the second coming theory has no scriptural basis in the Jewish Bible. In fact, scripture states that when a person dies, “on that day his plans all perish.” Therefore, according to scripture, when Jesus died, his plans ended. Second, the second coming theory can apply to any person who has ever lived and therefore is totally meaningless. For example, one can claim that their Gentile grandmother was the messiah. When challenged that she didn’t accomplish anything, one can say that when she “comes back” she will be born a Jewish man with the correct genealogy and will accomplish everything!

Yeshua will fulfill the rest of the prophecies when He returns.  There are no contradictions in His geneologies in Matthew and Luke.  One is through His biological parent Mary and the other through His mother's husband Joseph.  Without having a Jewish mother today, one is not considered Jewish so the mother's line is critical.  Since inheritance comes through the father, it is important to show He had the inheritance rights of Joseph, His mother's husband.

If Yeshua had not been rejected by the Jewish people, He would have fulfilled the rest of your list when He was here the first time.  Since He was rejected, then He did not fulfill them then and He will fulfill them when He returns.  In Ancient Israel, G-d withheld blessings of the Jewish people when they rejected Him and He sent them into exile when they rejected Him.  This is not a difficult to understand for those who have studied the Tanach and has seen that G-d withheld blessings and promises because of Israel's rebellion.

Either Yeshua is Mashiach or G-d did not fulfill what the Prophet Daniel said making Daniel a false prophet:

Daniel   (JPS)

9:24 Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sin, and to forgive iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal vision and prophet, and to anoint the most holy place.

9:25 Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the word to restore and to build Jerusalem unto one anointed, a prince, shall be seven weeks; and for threescore and two weeks, it shall be built again, with broad place and moat, but in troublous times.

9:26 And after the threescore and two weeks shall an anointed one be cut off, and be no more; [the rest is about the anti-messiah] and the people of a prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; but his end shall be with a flood; and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

9:27 And he shall make a firm covenant with many for one week; and for half of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease; and upon the wing of detestable things shall be that which causeth appalment; and that until the extermination wholly determined be poured out upon that which causeth appalment.'

6 points considered

It is taught by the Shuls that the concept of the Messhiach is first occurring in Balaam's prophecy: "There shall come a star out of Jacob, and a scepter {shevet} shall rise out of Israel" (Numbers 24:17). However, the Hebrew word used for scepter in Numbers 24:17, is the same as that of Genesis 49:10, being "shevet".  And how is the scepter or "shevet" teaching the concept of the messiah?  Because in Aramaic, shevet is translated by the sages as "messiah."
Does not Sanhedrin 98a teach that if Israel is not deserving, Messiah would arrive riding a lowly ass (Zechariah 9:9), and not come upon the clouds as Heaven (Daniel 7:13), had they been worthy?  The very fact that Josephus testifies of the evil nature of the body politic of Israel, and of the vicious nature of the Nasi in this period until 70 A.D., shows us that this view is actually quite close to being correct!
Even many hundreds of years after Bar Kochba's disgraceful conduct, and proven state of being a "false Messiah", Maimonides still joined the sages in being of a mind that Bar Kochba may have been the King Messiah, but that he went kaput, or something to this effect (Hilchot Ta'aniot Chapter 5, Hilchot Melachim Chapter 11). Therefore, in mourning more for this fallen Messiah than for the fallen Temple, the  fast of Tisha B'Av (the 9th of Av) was primarily observed; while using the Temple as a pretext.  The fast is a mourning because Bar Kochba fell short.
In Contrast, Jesus was recognized by the Sanhedrin as a Son of David, in which Jesus was allowed to sit in the sanctified area of the Temple and teach the people.  Therefore His lineage is intact by this witness.
Jesus was officially recognized as the king of the Jews by the prevailing Power, the government of Rome, for the six hours upon the Cross.  Simply having a plaque, by Caesarian precedent, as Josephus tells us, made this a legal ruling and an official recognition.  What Truman did for Israel upon the Declaration of May 1948, Pilate did for Christ...the recognition was official and a fulfillment of prophecy.  So in a way, it was this formerly "Christianized nation" that made it possible for Israel to come back into existence.  {Cf. Rector etc., of Holy Trinity Church v. USA, February 29, 1892, Supreme Court ruling...we were once a "Christian nation"}.
We may view the indwelling of believers the first step to building the Temple of the Heavenly Jerusalem through the living stones of believers, because abanim {stones} separated is "alef-banim", "G-D's sons" and is to the effect of the translatory teaching of John the Baptist: "G-D is able, of these stones, to raise up children to Abraham".  But what if this view is rejected?  So what.  He's coming again,{He is the BA}, and has 1,000 year reign {He is the Aleph / Alaph}, and will finalize all things.
Finally, already through the missionaries of Christianity, He has brought the knowledge of G-D to the world, bringing law and order and peace and wisdom in ways that have calmed the nations, and had caused through these that there would be a sanctuary for the law and peace abiding.  Any good that has come of civilization,in the last 2000 years,  has come first and foremost through "Christ" and his followers.  So if the premise of Sanhedrin 98:a was not fulfilled by Bar Kochba either coming in clouds (as in Daniel) or upon an ass never ridden before (as in Zechariah, which Yeshua did); then you're telling us that "real" Jews not only eat Quiche, but they actually teach us of the THREE comings of Messiah...Bar Kochba and the OTHER TWO?   OY!!!

RE: Why Jesus was not the Jewish messiah

Surely this is an over-literal interpretation of the Bible. Since the Old Testament times our knowledge of God has been revolutioned by science (i.e we know that the universe is many times more magnificent than we could have ever imagined), philosophy, art, music and so on. We no longer live in a world where the people of God live in sheep pastures, or carry out simple-skilled tasks such as trade in silk and spices, or make things out of wood (compared to now where we can send men to the moon). Now the choice of mankind, what we do in terms of technology, is huge. And the power to do good and evil has greatly changed.

Going back to your point, i.e about building a temple. Do you think God is really concerned about bricks and mortar. Surely he is concerned now about a temple of people. His church on earth. His concern (I believe) is that people are cemented together, spiritually, to each other, and to God, in this world. This might sound wooly, but talking about spirtitual can. But it makes more sense surely than talking about bricks and mortar. Now that Mankind has developed (for good and evil) surely the temple is a spiritual one, not a physical one.

RE: Why Jesus was not the Jewish messiah

Do you have a special dictionary that we dont use to define Messiah?
Messiah means the one who covers earth quickly.
Actually, (Jesus) is the Messiah of the Jews. He was sent by God to revive Jewdism, but the jews didnt accept him.
We muslims beleive in Him as Messiah, not son of God.
Then Muhammad was sent by the same God ( Only one GOD ).
But both Jews and Christians didnt accept Him.. Any way, everyone has the right to embrace the religion he wants, but on the day of judgement, he will be responsible for his choice, if it's wrong, he will be damned in the Hellfire.
The purpose of sending messengers and prophets is to guide people to worship God in the way he would ike us to do it. whenever, a new messenger was sent, it means that we are required to follow His teachings, He didnt come up with sth from his`own head, he was told to pass the message from God to us.

be careful, you are responsible for ur choice
bye

RE: Why Jesus was not the Jewish messiah

SIMSIM,

The problem with what you are saying is that only God Himself can be our Messiah and Eternal King. Any other teaching is the teaching of anti-Christ. All the glory and power belongs to God.

To speak of one's own initiative and take glory from God speaking in God's place in and among God's people, the Temple of God, is the teaching of the false prophet and the beast. It is Man, the number of man, taking the place of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Shalom/Peace!

Jesus did not qualify as the Jewish Messiah ben David for the simple reason that he did not fulfill any of these criteria. The Messiah ben David must:
You have to get the right Jesus,Jesus is God not someone separate from God.These messiah prophesies can not be argued anymore, cause I just fullfilled most of them being God and jesus. If the jews would just learn to be a little more patient then they will see that God is the messiah and is the same person that came down as Jesus.I agree that the other person is not the messiah.but if you noticed we also had to different wills for people to follow.God=save lives and love.Fake guys will was to destroy and hate.God does things in his own time and not anyone elses.Time is patience,Patience is love.As much as we would all love to have this over with and be in heaven above,we must remember to have faith and patience in time.If we get in a hurry to do things we will only fail. That is where satan and his crew of Gentiles have made serious errer.Peace and love to all
1. have the correct genealogy by being descended from King David and King Solomon,
2. be anointed King of Israel,
3. return the Jewish People to Israel,
4. rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem,
5. bring peace to the world and end all war,
6. bring knowledge of God to the world.

According to revelation the second death is for the evil spirits that walk with Satan. It says the second death will be the lake of fire, where satan was captured and thrown into the lake of fire.So I totally agree that the jesus you are reffering to is not your messiah. Now let's try another way how about Jesus being God.The bibles says King of Kings so it that right there is stateing no king is higher than him. This particular person just rebuilt the temple and it grew.So how can anyone deny jesus as God?

RE: Why Jesus was not the Jewish messiah

Quote:
1. have the correct genealogy by being descended from King David and King Solomon,

This one is so easy to shoot down if you look at the scriptures that he included to prove his point.

Quote:
2 Samual 7:12-16
12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

There is nothing in this verse that says that Solomon will be that seed in fact Jesus was the only begotten son of God, a title that Solomon could have never claimed.

Quote:
Psalms 89
29 His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
30 If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;
31 If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;
32 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
33 Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
34 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
35 Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.
36 His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. 37 It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.

His seed shall endure forever and have a never ending rule considering that seed is Jesus, also there is nothing here to say that that seed was from Solomon.

Quote:
1 Chronicles 17:11-14
11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.
13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.
15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

Once again this doesnt mention Solomon and also if it was referring to Solomon considering that God did not establish his kingdom forever but allowed it to split after his death, due to Solomon's whoring after other gods.

Quote:

1 Chron 22:9-10
9 Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.
10 He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.

Now finally some meat and something that the skeptics can indeed grasp, but wait this is only part of the prophecy that God gave David concerning his seed.

So in order to get the true meaning you have to read further.

Quote:
1 Chron 28:6-7
6 And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father. 7 Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.

This is the last part of the prophecy that the man listed to say that the Messiah would come through Solomon's lineage.

Unfortunately he must be suffering from a temporary case of blindness of amnesia because God gives a condition for this promise and Solomon did not fulfill his part of the bargain.

The condition was that he would establish his kingdom forever if he was constant to do God's commandments but as we all know Solomon was not constant to do all of God's commandments in fact near the end of his life he went a whoring after idols, thereby causing God to revoke his end of the bargain and God allowed his kingdom to be split.
