First, where David says you might could not answer an angry person cause of 1 corinthians 6:7,8 I disagree.  You should say something if you are not too angry because to not say anything at all can be or be interpreted as stone walling.  This is very agressive in a passive agressive way to be noncommunicative.

How do you end witnessing when the person becomes angry? The last time this happened to me was in NYC with talking to a cult guy.  First,  I was so into the debate I needed to pinch my self and say, "ok, this guy is getting so angry he can't hear what I am saying and it is draining my emotional gas tank".

Other things.  People waving their arms around isn't just italian, it is something to watch for in not provoking an already angry person.  Don't touch an angry person.  Where they get you the most is on the phone.  An important peice of advice I got was if a person is angry for more than 60 seconds they are beyond what you can deal with right then and there and if they are yelling at you into your ear on the phone you can tell them what you are going to do then hand up.

It is about general wisdom and communication skills.  Now I am 40 and not 18 I have alot let trouble with people dumping rage on me when I try to witness.  While you are talking also pay attention to their nonverbal ques such as arms crossing face red etc.  Believe me, if they are in a rage no more beneficial communicaiton is going to be happening anyway.  A carnal person couldn't care less about your best arguments so don't try to throw up a wall of words to protect your self.  They will be more impressed by you walking away calmly you sliped away from their desire to stumble you.

The more tense the situation the less meaningfull the thing you say needs to be.  When you walk away say, "It sure is hot our here" or "this is an interesting city" or something innocuous like that.

It does help to have a thick skin and not take things personal!

After I wrote this I recalled a chapter in screw tape letters where the 2 demons were angry their "patient" took a walk in the woods he enjoyed.

I think this is an illustration of emotional gas tank.  

It is wierd, but sometimes to keep from backslideing you might not need to pray mightilly, study more or go to a rivival.

It might just be doing something you like that might even seem selfish to keep you from stumbling.
